Looking at the GIF Jim Lazar posted (Thanks!) I noticed one thing seems to be
missing.

As I understand it, in traditional Japanese homes the bathroom is reserved for
bathing.  This fits well with what we have seen: an inner bath with the furo
and an outer changing / laundry room.

This leaves the question - where are the toilet facilities? Anyone have any
ideas?

There probably aren't any.  Why build a fixture that nobody uses?
(Anyway, being a martial artist requires DISCIPLINE!)
