Hm. Are you *quite* sure it was a rip-off, rather than, say... a
tribute? Besides, the episode was written by William Gibson, the man
who *created* the cyberpunk genre with his break-through novel,
_Neuromancer_. If anything, BGC owes the very aspects that you claim
X-Files "ripped off" -- if not its very existance -- to that man. So
chill out, dude.
I recieved so many respnses along these lines that I've decided to respond to
them en masse rather than individually.
First of all, I AM aware that this episode was a repeat. I just missed the
earlier one, that's all.
Secondly, I was UNaware that Mr. Gibson was the one who wrote this. I have
nothing but respect for his work. Therefore, I withdraw my critiscisms about
machine/human bonding and downloading ones brain into a computer. I do not,
however, apologize for them.
Thirdly, I still believe my views have merit. The whole particle-beam
satellite thing is definitly NOT standard cyberpunk fare, and I intend to
stand by that. Furthermore, the female guest star (Esther) is still VERY close
to Priss IMHO, the standard cyberpunk charcahter template notwithstanding.
