Richard, don't get me wrong, I thought 'Thy Outward Part' was a fantastic
and touching story.  All of it.  But even with your initial comment, it
seems a bit strange hearing this from you.  ^_^

Will this serve some future purpose in the main story?  Or is this just to
be "cute" - "Look, Ranma and Akane *each* bore a child!" and "Here's a way
Ranma could get pregnant that no one's thought of yet!"

I'm not going to try to guess what Gary has planned.  ( I give myself all
sorts of headaches when I do that)  But, does the birth really have to have
some great purpose?  In both this story and in TOP, Ranma grew as a person
due to his experiences.  That may be enough.

It kind of turned me off for some reason, since I could see no purpose to
it.  Also, it raised a bunch of questions and then dropped them
unceremoniously, with no real answers.

Well, the story isn't over yet, so I kind of expected some unanswered
questions.

But the *good* news is that we finally got the preliminaries out of the
way.  :)  It only took you... what, a year?   ^_^   Too bad Taleswapper
gave up reviewing in that time, neh?  This has the makings or a great
epic.
