Chapter One
"Richard!!!! Richard!!!! Please don't die." A woman with long red
hair wearing an elegant white dress flowing down the length of her body wept.
In her arms was the man she loved. They had finally discovered their true
feelings for each other only to have it stripped away by a poisoness arrow.
Tears were flowing down her eyes as she held him in his final moments. She
was the one who was suppose to be the protector not him. She was the one who
was suppose to die not him. It should never have been him. She was the one
who pledged to protect him. In the end it was her fault that he was going to
die. If only she was better, faster. With these thoughts she wept some more.
The first thing he noticed was the pain. The excrutionary pain that
flared across his body. Had he been a normal man, he would have fainted due
to the sheer magnitude of nerve queaching pain he felt in every limb in his
body. Pain was not unknown to him. He was taught to tolerate pain, to
control it and not be used by it. Again pain flared throughout his body. He
knew he was poisoned. Seeing his life flash before his eyes he also knew that
he had very little time left. He did not know which poison had been used to
counter it with his special abilities, his gift. He did know that with his
death, the lands around him would fall into darkness. He could not let that
happen. For his friends and for those he loved he would not let it happen.
Opening his eyes, he tried whisphering to his love, "Touch me."
As Kahlan cried, she heard a whisper calling to her. Wiping away
her tears, she looked down at her beloved, trying to make out what he was
saying. Her eyes widen as she finally understood what he wanted. Looking
into his face, she saw the determination in his eyes. She knew that he was
not leaving the world of the living without a fight. Leaning down, she
pressed her lips upon his and released her grip on the power. The sound of
thunder could be heard as the energy coursed betwen the two lovers as time
stopped.
Richard felt the power, felt the love. Using the gift he was born
with and the last of his remaining strength he fashioned a spell never before
seen. This was his only chance to protect the people he loved. Closing his
eyes one last time, he await the day when he can final see and touch his
beloved again.
Kahlan almost dropped Richard when his body started to glow. She
knew that when Richard's eyes final closed it would not open again. The light
which surrounded him grew brighter in intensity until final Kahlan had to look
away. When she final opened her eyes, only his sword remained. She wept
harder than before. Fate had stolen the one her loved above all else. Fate
had also stolen his body. Looking down at the sword which as the only
reminder of Richard. We wept on into the night.
Kahlan could not sleep. Without Richard there was no happiness.
Without happiness there was no life. She wanted to join her beloved
desperately. Looking down at the sword, she made up her mind. Gripping the
hilt by both hands and pointing the tip toward her heart. She deep a deep
breathe before plunging the sword through her heart. What more harm could a
piece of metal do to her heart when it was already cracked and broken. On her
face were strange symbols. She had done this once before. The first time she
had ever touched Richard, she could not bare to live and had prepared to take
her life before Richard stopped her. The symbols were meant to tell him it
was he she loved. She laughed silently at the irony. Here she was again,
ready to take her life after touching him a second time. This time there
would be no Richard to stop her. This time she looked forward to dying.
Closing her eyes she started the sword's path toward her heart, only to have
it stop centimeters before breaking skin. She dropped the sword and cursed
Fate. She had forgotten the special properties of the sword. It would not
kill an innocent. She could not even kill her right. Why did she think she
could protect Richard. Again she wept in sorrow.
Suddenly, Denna appeared before Kahlan. Looking down at the
distress woman. She tried to sooth the only friend she had left in the
Midlands. "Kahlan, Richard loved you and would want you to live. He risked
his life protecting you. If you through it away then Richard's life and his
sacrefice would be meaningless. Even if you succeeded, Richard would not be
waiting for you in the spirit would. He is not in the spirit world. With his
last ounce of breathe he casted a rebirth spell. He lives Kahlan."
Hearing that Richard was alive, Kahlan looked up and Denna. She
was trying to discover if Denna was lying or telling the truth. Seeing onlt
sincerity in the spirit's eyes, hope blossomed in her heart. "Where is he
Denna? Please tell me." Kahlan pleaded.
"He is not in Midlands, Westlands, Old World, Underworld or Bounty
as well. The spell he casted moved his sould to a different world where he
will be born again. Look for him Kahlan, we people need him." Denna
explained before disappearing.

It was a rainy day in Nerima. Ranma-chan was in the bathroom
preparing for bed. Suddenly a Bolt of Lightning struct the tree outside the
window. That was not what startled her. The sound of Thunder that followed
it shook her more than anything. A blinding flash of pain suddenly shoot
through her head. Looking into the mirror at her unbraided long red hair, a
single thought passed through her mind, "Kahlan."
