Where Time Lies
Prologue

"Tears touch the earth to bring all that has passed before.
Rippling through the ages, revealing man's blackened core.
Destruction rampant, and still she cries.
Over the marker where time lies."

     It's been ten years since the threat of Lavos was vanquished, and
peace permeated the vastness of time once more.  One could simply go
outside and feel how the planet, maybe even the entire universe was in a
relaxed state.  It knew that someday the evil inside it would be
removed.  Years, centuries, eons, they are all relative, we surely found
that out in the most direct way possible.  Time is not a straight line,
not something you can curve and twist to your will.  It is more like the
ocean, you must ride upon it and take it where it leads you.  It can be
the most beautiful sight you've ever seen, or the most hideously
destructive force imaginable.  
     I, with the help of a pendant, created a boat on which to ride the
waves and eddies of time.  I simply wanted to be known for creating
something that would benefit mankind for all time.  I never would have
imagined I would end up in a dusty tome long forgotten, written
thousands of generations before my very birth.  A chronicle of a great
battle, fought throughout the ages.  We never gave up in our quest, we
made a lot of history better than it previously was with no regard to
the consequences.  Friends we once knew were snuffed from the time
stream thanks to our tampering, and new ones replaced them.  Entire
landscapes were alterred because of our tampering, and we like to
believe it was for the greater good.  My mother can walk now, thanks to
our adventure.  A higher power gave me the chance to save her, and I
did.  I never for an instant considered not doing it, never did I think
what might happen if I changed history once again.
     No, we did not care, we did not consider.  All we thought about was
defeating our enemy, and saving a future that is now as clear and
unknown as the farthest reaches of space.
     Paradox is a funny word, both in pronunciation and meaning.  It
means you made an impossible move on the ocean.  You've done something
that physically cannot happen.  You've tried to sail your ship upside
down on the water, and thusly you will sink.
     The Chrono Trigger was the ultimate technology, it surpassed the
sea of time.  It rose above the waves and allowed pinpoint manipulation
of the time continuum.  We used it to return Chrono to us.  Rather an
amazing coincidence that his name would be the same as his savior.  
     We used the device to return our loved one to us.  He came back and
we were happy and together once again.  Marle was in tears for weeks.
So was I, but never let anyone know about it.  I'm supposed to be the
stable one, the person who could rise above emotion... much like a
robot.  Fancy that.  Yet, we really didn't know what the device was
truly capable of... what the consequences of our actions would be.
     Well, we surely found out.  Three years after it began, the pain.
Chrono tried to hold it in, tried not to let us know.  He didn't want
anyone to worry about him.  He was such a careing person, never a
thought for himself.  After a while it became too much for him, it would
wrack his body day and night.  I was the first to notice, being his wife
and all.  That was an amusing turn of events, to find out he loved me
that much.  Marle was somewhat shocked, but understood.  I was, to say
the least, floored.  All the years of friendship, it never once came to
mind that he was attracted to me physically.  Probably had something to
do with the time he walked in on me in the shower when we were fifteen.
He'd never seen me out of my overbearing work outfits, and didn't really
know what I truly looked like.  It was quite a shock to him to find out
I was actually quite a beautiful woman, like my mother.  Then it became
a real shock for him as he found out why you knock before entering the
bath of an electrical engineer.  He still had a scar from that, much to
my amusement.  
     We had a child, little Janus, in honor of one that helped us from
long ago.  He's almost six now, and is turning into the spitting image
of his father.
     Marle is now Queen, and reigns with a prince from the Endura
Kingdom, a little known province in the east.  They have had two
children, and they are good friends with Janus much to my delight.
     I hope everyone in the past lived out a happy existance.  I found
that Frog became friends with Magus, and he removed the curse after much
trial.  They lived the way they wanted to, as true warriors and heroes.
     Robo I can't know about, as I cannot see the future.  Sure, I could
replace the Time Displacement Node in the Epoch and take a peek, but we
all promised never to use it again unless it was an absolute emergency.
I can only hope he was created, and is comfortable wherever he will be.  
     What happened to Chrono exactly?
     Well, that's a longer story...
It begins ten years ago, with the destruction of Lavos...
