The Earth was a beautiful planet.  Full of life and energy.  Following Second
Impact, the beauty that once was is no more.  Humans have contaminated and
upset the sensitive balance Mother Nature had so carefully planned.  In less
than three millennium, mankind has destroyed what took billions of years to
create.  It is no wonder that now after Second Impact, mankind was to be
judged to see if they were worthy enough to continued in their present
existence.  Today marked the arrival of Heaven's machine of judgment, today
marked the arrival of the Angels. 

To prevent Third Impact and the annihilation of mankind, NERV was created to
battle the Angels.  Their weapon of choice were giant semi-organic robots
which stood several stories high.  The only hope for mankind were these so
called Evangelion or Eva and the young pilots who took them into battle.  So
far three individuals were chosen as protectors of mankind : Rei Ayanami;
First Child; Asuka Langley, Second child; Shinji Ikari, Third Child.  So far
these three young heroes were the last line of defense for mankind.  Soon a
fourth shall join the battle for mankind.  Soon another will join the ranks
and don the mantle of an Eva pilot.  He shall soon pass into the flames of
judgement.
