Here's a draft of a fic i began as playing with an idea in between writing
Jusenkyo's Curse. In this fic, the characters are not as everyone knows
them, mostly in name only. In this fic, Ranma and Ranko are family, Genma
never took Ranma to Jusenkyo etc etc. Basically, none of the things which
happened to Ranma happened. (ie this is an alternate timeline fic if that's
what u call it).

For the record, in this fic, Happosai is not the pervert and senile
delinquent that he is in all other fics. It will take getting used to but
bear with me, i couldn't think up another suitable 'Master' who would have
taught Genma and Ranma willingly.

*Insert Standard Disclaimer here, I don't own the characters, I don't have
any money nor am I trying to make any money here*

Ranma 1/2: The Legend of the Twin Dragons
a fanfic by Kyo Kusanagi
------------------------------------------

Prologue
--------
It is a beautiful spring day in Nerima after the previous night's rainstorm.
The park beside the river is bustling with life and color. Birds chirp
merrily atop the dew-covered trees, small creatures play on the mossy ground
and children run about playfully to the chagrin of their parents nearby.

"Ranma! Ranko! Don't wander off too far now!" a voice calls to two children
as they run toward the bridge, playfully trying to tag each other. The two
children giggle as they arrive at the bridge, peering over to gaze at the
cruise liner passing nearby and everyone else on the other side of the river.

Ranko stares in wonder at the liner as it passes, it's loud foghorn causing
her to wince slightly. "Wow! It's big isn't it?"

Ranma nods in agreement "Wonder what it's like to go on one of those..."

"You think Father will take us on one sometime?" Ranko asks, eyes filled
with a dreamy hope.

"I hope he does! It's easier than swimming!" Ranma replies. "...Hey! Look at
Father..." Ranko turns in the direction her brother is pointing and giggles
at what she sees. Genma, on the other side of the river is being accosted by
a group of kids asking for loose change.

"Can you spare some change mister?...Please?" a kid asks, tugging on Genma's
black Chinese shirt.

"Anything at all? Please?" Another kid begs, looking up at Genma with
puppy-dog eyes.

Genma sighs in resignation and pats the kid on the head. "Oh Well. All
right. But you'll have to let me go ok?" The kids nod eagerly.

"Will you buy one of my flowers, mister?" Genma turns at the sound of the
voice. He smiles when he sees a cute little girl wearing a green frilly
dress holding out a basket of flowers to him. Genma steps away from the
crowd of kids who promptly turn to follow him as he sinks to one knee in
front of the girl and ruffles her short-cropped hair playfully.

"Why, of course I will." says Genma, looking into her beautiful hazel-brown
eyes. Back up on the bridge, Ranma and Ranko look at each other and giggle.

"Father's too nice for his own good, what do you think bro?" Ranko asks,
tugging at Ranma's sleeve.

"I think it's, uhh, nice!" Ranma says, elicting a giggle from his sister.

"Now now children, don't make fun of your father like that! It's not
polite." The two children turn at the sound of their master's voice.

"Master Happosai." they both say simultaneously. The short old man before
them grins and pat both of them on the head.

"I think your father is a kind soul...Though maybe a little too much at
times." Happosai says, taking a drag from his pipe.

"Master, why did you choose to train our father?" Ranma asks, tugging on the
old man's sleeve. Happosai turns to face a curious Ranma.

"Because he possesses remarkable qualities for a man of his stature...He has
the potential to become a truly great martial artist." Happosai ruffles
Ranma's hair playfully. "...Much like you and your sister do now." The two
kids blush. "The two of you also have great potential, when you grow up, I
will also train you in the style of Musabetsu Kakutou-Ryuu." Happosai turns
from the two kids to look at Genma down by the waterfront. Genma,
preoccupied with the kids surrounding him, does not notice the two
approaching limosines.

"...There you go, now go off and have fun now." Genma smiles and says as the
kid he had given some money to bubbles his thanks. Suddenly, Genma stands up
to his full height and pushes one of the kid away from him. "...You kids!
Get away...NOW!" he says forcefully as four men dressed in black suits
approach him.

"Genma Saotome I presume?" one of the men ask mockingly.

Genma glares back, his eyes burning with anger. "What do you want?!"

The men simply nod at each other and, with a nod, draw knives and rush to
the attack. Genma struggles to free himself from the kids who have grabbed
onto him out of fear. Unwilling to push them away from fear of hurting them,
he sweeps two up into his arms and at the same time lashes out behind him
with a back mule kick, taking his oncoming attacker in the stomach. The man
gasps with pain and stumbles back. Genma swings around, whipping his left
leg up, around and over, connecting forcefully with the second man to rush
him. He then gently but quickly drops the kids and brutally punches the
second man in the stomach twice before following up with an elbow strike to
the face. The kids scream as they see blood flow from the injured man's nose.

"What are you kids stil doing here?!?...Get...ARRGH!" Genma gasps as he
feels the sensation of cold steel sliding up against his spine. Turning to
face the third man, Genma angrilly grabs the man's wrist in a tight lock and
with a chop, dislocates his elbow at the joint. There is a loud crack as the
bones break. Back up on the bridge, Ranma, Ranko and Happosai look at the
scene in horror.

"Oh no! Come on!" Ranma yells, breaking into a run, followed closely by his
sister and Happosai. A loud splash is seen as Genma throws the fourth man
into the river, his blood tinging the water a shade of pink. Pausing to
catch his breath, Genma turns at the sound of an approaching car. The car
stops and the chaffeur exits, opening the rear door for his employer to alight.

"K...Kuno?!?" Genma gasps, falling to one knee in pain as he vainly attempts
to remove the knife from his back. Kuno Tatewaki simply sneers at the
injured Genma grovelling before him.

"You grovel like the dog you are! It is unknown why the master has chosen
you...YOU! To succeed him as the master of Musabetsu Kakutou-Ryuu...It is
unacceptable..." Kuno says with mock sadness as his chaffeur hands him a
bokken. Kuno adjusts his grip for a moment before swinging the bokken in an
upwards arc, yelling "GEKIRETSU SEKKEN SHOUGEKIHA!" (Violent Sweeping Shock
Wave) and throwing a crackling blue energy wave straight at Genma. The
attack was not fast and was meant to add insult to injury as Kuno knew that
Genma could not dodge in his current state. The wave slams into Genma with
terrible force, knocking him flying to come on a painful stop ten meters
away. An involuntary scream escaped his lips as the pain from the attack
combined with the wound in his back became unbearable. Kuno walked
nonchalantly up to the fallen man, pointing his bokken at Genma's throat.
"You are unworthy of the school as you are of life..." Kuno sneered,
slapping Genma in the face with his bokken. "Kore wa kono
zetsumei!...SHI-NE!"(This is the end of your life...DIE!) Kuno screamed as
he lifted his bokked above his head and slashed downward forcefully, the cut
trailing a glowing blue arc in the air. Genma gave vent to a bloodcurdling
final scream as the blow struck home. Kuno held his attack pose as Genma's
body twitched once, twice then was still.

The four men who attacked Genma earlier on limped up to Kuno, moaning and
holding their injuries. "M...Master Kuno, we must go now before the
authorities arrive!" Kuno didn't appear to hear them and, withdrawing the
blood-stained bokuto sword from the corpse of Genma, walked back to his
limosine and stepped in. The car took off just as Ranma, Ranko and Happosai
arrived on the scene.

"Oh no! Father...FATHER!" Ranko sobs, embracing her father's corpse. Ranma
didn't utter a word as he glared in the direction the limosines left. After
a moment Ranma spoke, his voice low and full of anger.

"Why?...Why didn't you stop them?!?" Ranma yells at Happosai. The old man
simply sighs, exhaling a puff of smoke from his pipe.

"It was far too dangerous...You don't..." Happosai began.

"SHUT UP!" Ranma screamed, tears filling his eyes. "What kind of master are
you when you can't even protect your own disciples?!?" Ranma continued
cursing for the next five minutes, Happosai waited patiently for him to finish.

"Listen, my boy..." Happosai began. "...Kuno had too many men, if I had
fought him, then i would never have the chance to pass on my techniques to
you..." The old man said, the power of reason dampening Ranma's anger.
Happosai then turned to walk away.

"Ranma, Ranko...You must now embark on a journey to perfect your fighting
skills..." Happosai says, watching Ranma hug his distraught sister. "...You
are still too young to defeat Kuno in battle...Return here in ten years
after you have mastered your own styles of fighting...THEN you can avenge
your father's murder..." Happosai says, walking away. Ranma watched him go
then turned to his sister.

"We'll do it sis..." Ranma says in a voice full on determination. "...Ten
years...Kuno! You will PAY!!!"
