I came up with this Idea on the way home this evening. I was
thinking for some reason about the Tenchi muyo characters. How much
we do not know about Yosho, and his past. All we know of the time
befor he left Jurai, was that he was heir aparent to the jurain
thrown. There is also every indication that he had no actual
dislike of Ryoko before her attack on Jurrai, and that he was actualy
sad at having to emprison her. Why else did he not kill her to begin
with, at the only mement when jhe would ever likely have the chance.
There are also indications from the anime that Ryoko was aquanted
with the Juraian royakl family before the attack.
The TV series and the OAV's are completely seperate timelines,
in the OAV's Jurai first met Ryoko when she attacked Jurai. In the TV
series she had never attacked Jurai because she was a LOT less powerful
and would have been trashed in seconds.(Plus Kagato wasn't controlling
her mind.)
Also In the TV series Aeka wasn't engaged to Yosho, indeed she
simply knew him as a legendary member of the Jurai royal family who had
vanished long ago. Aditionally the TV series has apparently indicated
that the Jurai folk aren't that much longer lived than regular human's.
Oh and as for the question of Yosho's decision to imprision
Ryoko instead of killing her, there's a few reason's I can think of.
1, He had decided he wanted to stay on earth and Puting Ryoko in a
prison he could watch over gave him an excuse.
2, In the OAV's she had the power to regrow severed limbs, and in the
fight she kept fighting even when impailed through the throat untill
her three jewel energy source was stolen by the sword. Yosho was badly
hurt in the fight, and was probably more certain of his ability to
imprision her than that he could overcome her healing capability and
kill her.
3, The OAV's never mentioned weather or not he had ever killed anyone
before, and even if he had, when he realised that Ryoko was only
incapacitated by the sword he would have probably been hesitant to kill
her in cold blood.
and 4, It was never revealed how much the Jurai trees could sense and
what they could tell their human's, but Funaho (Yosho's ship) could
have sensed that Ryoko was being controlled by someone and told him,
which would have increased his reluctance to kill a helpless woman.
