Here's one from David Tai (dtai@ix22.ix.netcom.com), who gladly enumerated
the
Kindly Ones' names as mentioned in the Sandman:
There's just ONE slight problem with the spamfic:
Weren't the Erinyes after people who violated filial piety (as in,
parents being killed by children?), rather than sibling piety?
Of course, they DID punish people who performed perjury, murder,
ingratitude, disrespect, harshness, and the laws of
hospitality, as well as filial piety, but in Sandman, it seemed, they
were punishing those who violated filial piety.
Never knew about the bigger part, but I think Dream implied it when he was
berating Desire at the end of "Doll's House". I just don't know if they
count
as siblings in the pure sense, that is. I just assume that, for most part in
the Sandman mythos, that was the only aspect of note. (I haven't been
following up on the Dreaming, though. They might have a fairer, more
encompassing characterization, so I may be wrong.)
Here's one from Derek Sherman (doppelganger@pipeline.com), responding to
several responses:
I agree., even though it shocked the hell out of me when I got
further along the fic. Never having read any Sandman, it was quite a
surprise.
Never really occurred to me that it'd be that shocking. The Sandman hit me
that way in issue #6. *brrr* As I said, it was only meager homage.
Just because *you* think that tags are unneccessary doesn't mean that
others share the same belief. Myself, I much prefer to know
beforehand if the fanfic I'm reading is going to take a darker turn
or not, or if it's a lemon, or anything like that. How about that
"Kagato's Revenge" fanfic, eh? Doesn't that one just scream for the
[Pre-teen RAPE] tag? How about Aikan Muyo! (hope I spelled that
right), a very good fic that deserves a [LEMON] tag, and shouldn't be
ashamed of it - it's a well-written lemon. Or the one that started
this, which deserves a [DARK] tag, and again should not be ashamed of
it - it's well written, and good.
Thanks. (For the earlier two, I agree with the assessment of Happosai's
Aikan Muyo!, but I have no idea about Kagato's Revenge, though.)
Some people dislike certain types of fics. Tags are a courtesy to
everyone - a warning sign, if you will, proclaiming to all what lies
within, so that they can choose for themselves if they want to read
it or not. I prefer to have that choice.
PS> What in the world does the [sF] in the header mean? I have no
clue....
Now this got me. I was too worried to put in either "spamfic" or "shortfic"
that I put in [sF] in the header, and effectively chose to restate an obvious
(hey, 7 KB is kinda short for me) over warning potentially-offended readers to
steer clear of the fic. (I did get a few responses from people asking about
the absence of the tag.)
The moral of the story is to never assume. We don't share a common line of
dark or lemon... but that doesn't mean that the lines should bind us all.
Have a merry Christmas, y'all.
