Sorry for this, but...
>From what I understand, Copyrights are created the moment something is
made or copied. But you guys and gals know that already.
Correcto mundo!
Rights belong solely to the person who created it unless the work was
created via contract for another or while under the employment of someone
else.
Again correct...you so smart!
Anyways, Biles is right about not being able to claim copyright on
something you made which infringes on a copyright. That is, unless the
original author gave you permission to do so. {Get it in writting if you
can. ^_-}
Okay boys and girls, here's where it gets messy. I am a copyrighted
(written?) author of my own material and I can tell you what a hassle it is
doing the process, so any author who goes through the process REALLY wants
to protect the work.
The messy part is, or rather was, brought into court by none other than the
king of parody "Weird" Al Yankovic. Remember him and the court case with
"Michael"?
The decision, and it is a landmark one, says that so long as the work is a
parody, it does NOT fall under copyright infringement. Parody is a legal
artform.
Now to cover our own butts we always include a little disclaimer
saying...well, you know...but that still doesn't cover us, unless our work
is parody.
Think of it this way, if whoever decides to sue any of us, then they would
have to sue ALL of us, because 90% of the work in RAAC and on the FFML would
be admissible(sp?) as evidence.
And as far as making money goes, none of us are that stupid right?...Well,
am I right????
God, I hope I'm right...
^_^;} If the copyright holder DOESN'T defend their copyright when they know
people are infringing upon it, then that copyright holder is in a sense
giving up their right to enforce that right. Ie. If you are part of the
Freedom Troupe. ^_-
Now as far as this goes, if some anime artists' children think what we're
doing deserves massive amounts of lawsuit, they can. Public domain takes
effect 50 years after the authors (writer's / artists) death. Which mean
that those things copyrighted in 1947 are just NOW coming into Public
Domain.
I just hope I won't be banned for posting something which everyone probably
knows already. GOMEN!!! ^_^;
No apologies when it's something that affects each and every one of us.
So in closing...be good for goodness sakes...yadda,yadda,yadda...

PS. Perhaps the administrata would think to consent for a copyright form
that we could all include to cover our...bases, so to speak?
