Before I actually write, I am going to say that I might regret getting
into this, but I just LOVE these kinds of debates.

I too enjoy them, only I dislike arguing as opposed to debating. They
are very distinctly different.

Each person has their own personal struggle between the balance of
logic and emotion and there is no real answer to how a person
should think. I am one who strives toward greater logic in though
so as Spock in Star Trek says, "The needs of the many are greater
than the needs of the few." Even if the few includes me.

Now, when I saw that, I figured he was saying that if the _few_ should
do something, it should be for the good of the _many_. In this example ,
Spock/_few_ is giving his life so that the the Enterprise/_many_ can
esacpe from Khan. That was a noble (if not a sad moment for Kirk) thing
he did.

That is what I am saying. The one deciding should not take into account
personal feelings. Otherwise racism can very well be justified because
a majority thinks it is socially acceptable.

And that's NOT the way Gendou is. "MY needs --", accepting >for the
moment your premise that he's doing all that he does to get >Yui back,
"-- are greater than the needs of the many, so I will f--k >over anyone
I have to in order to get what I want." *That*, sir, is >the summary of
Ikari Gendou as depicted in your work. And, sir, if >you admire him, I
recommend strongly that you *never* have children.

His decisions are not entirely based on that premises. I have always
admitted when discussing Gendou that he has his faults. But look at the
entire
picture with SEELE's scenario and Gendou's scenario. One of them would
have
been implimented depending on Gendou's decision himself to continue or
not.
Gendou's is the more peaceful transition.

Yikes! Makes me glad I ain't Gendou. ANd that last sentence was rather
cruel, you cannot deny that Mr. Davies.

I do not ask for the approval or disapproval from others regarding my
behavior.
All I ask is that others respect my choice.

accomplishing it is EVIL. Are you so blinded by the darkness of our
world that you no longer recognize evil when you see it, sir? Then,
sir, you are as damned as he is.

What are you talking about? There is barely, if any, true black or white
any more. It's all grey and a matter of POV. That is how screwed up our
world is today. NO ONE man can truly tell what is right and wrong in the
world today.

Gendou is not a typical simple, flat antagonist. There is more to him
than that.

Getting back to the HCP, in my opinion, it's a choice of two evils.
Which one would you chose? Gendou's, where less people would most likely
die and preserve the human race. Or SEELE's in which the whole human
race might as well kiss it's stinky little rear good-bye! And I ask YOU,
Mr. Davies and everyone bothering to read this thread, which one would
you chose if you could do NOTHING to stop it. Which is basically the
position our 'heroes'(if they can actually be called that) are in.

In a way, Gendou is in that same predicament. If he should quit, there
will be someone else (less qualified) who will follow SEELE's commands
to the letter.

Just because someone has done wrong does not mean they deserve such a
thing. Though it would be kinda nice if Gendou knew how it was like to
be in Shinji's shoes.

Shinji has an emotionally based personality, Gendou is logically based.
It is very difficult for the two sides to understand each other. I
myself
find it very difficult to understand why people lash out. Last year was
the
first time I lashed out at someone in over 6 years. It took me a long
time to
figure out why I did that, and that was me doing the action.
