I recently got ticked off at the spelling and grammar C&Cs I was
getting. Speaking of spelling what's with the extra "u"s in Ranma 1/2
fics? Ryouga, Ukyou, Tendou. These all have extra "u"s in them. Where
are they coming from?!!

Okay...Japanese is different from English... I don't believe there is a
case
in English where there are extended vowel sounds.
(unless you count the difference between damn and DAAAAAAAAAMN!)
But yes. That's how they are actually spelled in the Japanese.
Maybe we should take some common words.

No = iie. I'm not sure you could see JIS...but in kana would be with
three
characters. And if it was shown in this page, you would see that
indeed,
the first two characters are the same.

Arigato vs. arigatoo
Small difference, but the extension of the 'o' sound signifies that you
are
being very polite and giving much thanks. Same with Sayonara vs
Sayoonara.

Now...let's take a name. How about Ukyo? It's really Ukyou...or Ukyoo,
depending on how it is romanized (there are I think three systems of
romanization,
but I lack to competence to post on that...) Ukyo-o.

How about Tendo? Or shall we say Tendou? Divided into syllables, it
would
be Te-n-do-o. Extension of the 'o' sound. Oh...and besides that, "N"
is a
syllable unto itself...but that's for another time.

OH...and By the way, don't get ticked off with bad grammar C&Cs...
when I sent the beginning 4 chapters of my fanfic to this list...not
one single reply. Even when I sent it to one person who was to do
a CC on it (there are reviewers who will review you fic for you if noone
replies on the list...check the FFML for the list), HE didn't send it!
Oh well... ^_^
