Pardon my ignorance but what's a cork board?

Ever seen the bulletin board in school?  Cork is actually dead xylem vessels
of old woody plants, they are actually just underneath the ectoderm of the
plant's (or tree's) stem, and it's quite porous, meaning filled with holes,
which are the remnants of trachieds and the likes, but due to the
compactness of the cells, and the left over suberin layer, it makes cork
quite water proof, and would be best suited in functions like bottle
stoppers.  Etc. etc. etc.
