Don't forget about the possibility of a setback.  A war in, say 2075 
might make heavy use of EMP-generating bombs.  Knock out enough power 
sources, and the Earth is returned to the Dark Ages.

Some heavey stuff, but I must admit as intelligent as the EMP mines were
in Escape from LA, here are some food for thought...

EMP, or electromagenetic pulse, is most conveniently generated from a
nuclear explosion, which results in the liberation of energy through the
electromagnetic spectrum...

EMP is will take out SILICON based computers as the excess radio waves and
charged particles, will burn out the circuitry....  (Sort of like the
particle cannon which was developed to deliver a concentrated stream of
neutron particles to fry Soviet nuclear warheads...)

EMP will not kill batteries...  EMP will not kill military class
computers...(Today, the United States, thanks to extensive nuclear
testing, is prepared somewhat for a nuclear war....  All
MBT's, like the M-1A1 are shielded from Nuclear/Chemical/Biological
weaponry...  In english, a EMP wave will not take out a M1A1 tank...)

EMP will not take out the Honda generator that you have downstairs in the
basement...  EMP will not take out a 1950 chevy,with the exception of the
radio :P  In short, if it ain't got silicon and integrated circuits
inside, it's 100% safe from EMP....

It's pretty kewl what defense bucks can do.  In fact, United States
scientists have developed a prototype suitcase EMP-type "bomb"  It can be
carried by a single person, and on "detonation" the device will unleash a
powerful enough EMP pulse to take out electronics for about 100 feet...
without the dumb radiation associated with fission bombs and such...

Heh,it was kewl in 3rd grade when I did that report on Reagan's star wars
program...  barring the fact that the program would never progress past
laboratory stage... :P
