Last I checked, "honto" meant "Really" as in "Really?" or "Yeah, 
really!"

My textbook lists that "honto" can be used as "true."  We learned that with
a rising intonation it meant "really?" or with "ni" added on it meant
"really."  Well, I'm not a native speaker so I'm probably wrong.
