He held his hand up to eye level watching it tremble. Quickly, he
slammed his open palms onto the bar's countertop gripping it tightly to stop
the shaking. He could still hear the screams of the wounded and see the
blood stained street. "Try this, Leon." Jeena slid a shot glass down to him

before nursing her own drink. He looked at the glass for a moment then
procceded to down it in one swift stroke. Ussually he didn't care for
alchohal, but this time he didn't give a shit anything to make the screams
stop.
The liquid burned its way down his throat bringing tears to his eyes.
He gasped a breath and placed the glass back down as it settled in his
stomach.
"That tastes horrible," he commented. Jeena snickered.
"Its supposed to taste that way," She replied. He motioned for the
bartender for another.
"Should've ordered one of these a long time ago," he murmured. He
swiveled in his barstool to face her. "Here's to one unlucky sonvabitch."
He said loudly his voice slightly slurred. Jeena raised her glass to toast
their fallen comrade. The bartender mental tallied how many drinks they'd
down before he'd have to call a cab for both of the officers

She buried her hands in his hair holding him tight against her body.
Their lips met gentlt savoring the feeling flowing through them. His hands
fumbled to work the clasps to her shirt but failed. "Damn rookie," she
whispered attending to them herself as he worked on his own.....
Her mind reveled as the sensations flowed over and round her body.
The passion, the hunger, the lust, all of it was absorbed by her mind. It
worked on two levels activily continuing her actions. The other despretely
seeked more gathering and remembering every touch and caress as if to prove
something...
His hand brushed her right arm. A pins and needles feeling ran down
her spine. She gasped as the slight tingling pain mixed with the pleasure.
Her left hand grasped him tightly, nails digging into his skin leaving dents.
Hungrily, she pressed her lips to his once more. Tilted slightly to one
side, her cybernetic right arm was held as far away as possible. The sounds
of passion continued through the night.

<It grew slowly spreading like a cancer absorbing everything in its
path leaving shiny chrome in its wake. She stared at her right arm as it
pulsed with a life of its own. The pain seized her left side forcing her to
her knees. A cry of pure agony worked from between her lips. It was more
painful than any wound or torture ever devised.
In desperation, she tore at her the other limb tearing out monomear
muscles searching for flesh and blood. He put the cool metal barrel against
her head. She begged and pleaded tears coursing down her eyes. He nodded
grimly and fired..>

Jeena awoke. She wasn't screaming. Their was no cold sweat only a
gentle warmth. Glancing to her side, she saw Leon snoring peacefully. She
put a hand to her forehead sitting up. [The same nightmare...]

<The boomer let loose an animal like howl as it charged straight into
the hail of automatic gunfire. Armor piercing shells shattered circuit
boards and severed fiberoptic cables shredding the automaton apart. It fell
to the ground oozing various fluids and erupting smoke.
"Chalk up another one," A man said raising his face mask. Leon
nodded pulling off his own happy to be free of the rubbery smell of the
breathing unit.
"Fuck'in press aren't here to photo this. Those vultures don't show
us downing these every day. Incompetent my ass."
"Cool it Ohta," Jeena ordered taking a long drag off a cigerette.
"Hey Max you can stow the grenade launcher!!" She shouted towards an officer
hanging back near the APC. Leon walked towards the downed boomer pulling out
his revolver. Kneeling down, he kepted the barrel trained on the boomer.
"Yo' Jeena you got a knife? The spine isn't completely severed.
This thing could be recycled. Can't let that happen," he grimaced at the
prospect.
"Damnit, didn't I tell you to always carry one?" Jeena cursed
drawing a fearsome combat knife from her thigh sheath.
	+clink+
Time seemed to stand still as they both turned towards the sound.
They both saw the tube launched grenade bounce slightly off the ground. It
collided again. The civillians milling behind the police barricade fell like
thrashed grain as shrapnel sprayed outward from the grenade. Instinctively,
he brought up his hands as if to ward off the explosion. His eyes spotted
Jeena diving to the ground. The rest of the squad were thrown to the
pavement taking the brunt of the blast.
He pulled himself off the ground bleeding from several small nicks
and scratches. Jeena came out likewise. The screams seemed both to surround
and penetrate him as the wounded cried out for help. A feeling of
helplessness engulfed him as he turned watching in horror.>

Leon awoke suddenly to the sound of cascading water. He groaned as
the memories of the previous day forced their way to his mind accompined by
an alchohal induced headache.
It was a normal call, a rampaging civillian owned boomer. They
downed it with no problem. Then Max dropped a grenade as he was unloading
the launcher. It was supposed to be safe till launched goddamn it! His mind
screamed. It wasn't some hand tossed grenade. Half the squad caught the
brunt of the past along with the civillians who watched the whole time.
Their was no casulties save Max. He died instanly after loosing half his
upper chest; forensics would be sorting out the bloody pieces for a week.
Commander Dieork ordered Jenna and himself off while the medics dealt with
the rest.
Jeena and himself ignored the suggestion of seeing the shrink or
chaplain. They got drunk together, and Jeena finally got him in bed. Caught
up in his thoughts, he didn't notice the water cutting off or the bathroom
door opening.
"Like my apartment?" Jenna said crossing her arms over the thick
towel wrapped around her body. Another towel was wrapped, like a turban,
around her curly hair. She blushed slightly as he, unconsiously, traced her
body head-to-toe. It was the most feminane he'd ever seen her including the
policemen's ball.
"Nice," he cast a glance around the small two room apartment. He
caught sight of the clock. "Aw, shit Jeena...about last night." His partner
smirked.
"It was physical, pure and simple, okay? So save that romantic
bullshit you feed your one nightstands," she said lightly. Leon breathed a
sigh of relief. "I kinda have to head out..." Jeena eye's widened somewhat.
"What? We've got the same duty schedule. Rushing off to apologize
to a girlfriend?" He looked down self conciously.
"I kinda wanted to save it for the morning briefing....," He looked
back up running a hand through his hair. He didn't notice Jeena freezing for
a moment. "my transfer to investigations came through. I'm a detective,
kind of. I've got a meeting about it today."
A flury of emotions ran across his partners face finally settling on
anger. He recognized the look in her eyes, the cold fury. The same look
was in her eyes the moment before she took out a boomer. A variety of clicks
and whirls came from her cybernetic arm as its pseduo-muscles contracted and
retracted. Fear slowly worked its way up to his mind. "Um Jeena?"
Her arm swung around backhanding the wall behind her. Shards of
plaster flew outward from the newly formed crater.
"Get out," She snarled. "Now." Leon rolled off the bed and
grabbed his gun and clothing like a man poccessed. Keeping his eyes on her
the whole time, he hurriedly pulled on his pants and exited the room. Jeena
pulled her hand back and turned away from the door. Angrily, she whipped
open her dresser and readied herself for duty. A strange emptiness worked
through her stomach.
			*		*		*

Leon paused as the elevator door closed in front of him. He took a
deep breath to slow his pounding heart. Almost by habit, he light up a
smoke and took a long drag. The cancer sticks would probably do him in one
day if he didn't bite it from a boomer or bullet first.
"What the hell was that about?" He mumbled confused about what had
happened earliar. He put a hand to his head as the headache seemed to
increase in tempo. The doors opened, and he walked to his battered
motorcycle grabbing his keys. His meeting with his new superior
and partner. A thought shot straight to his mind causing him to drop the
key ring. He closed his eyes concentrating slightly. Betrayl, he could
almost hear it in her voice. 'What did I do?!' he mentally asked himself.
			*		*		*

For the sixth time in as many minutes, he adjusted the tie around
his neck. He could swear it was actually constricting around his throat
trying to suffocate him. All he wanted was at least adjust it a little bit.
But even with that slight movement, he knew from experiance that it would
become undone. "Maybe I should've worn a clip on," Leon mumbled to no one
in particular from the bench in the seemingly empty bull-pen.
"Or your fatigues," a bored voice added catching up to him and
matching him in step. "It'll probably make the same impression on the
chief. Leon looked over the man. He was nothing special: early thirties,
medium build and height with brownish-black hair. "Inspector Nagamo. Your
Leon McNichols right?"
"Yeah," Leon replied accepting his hand.
"Come on your new chief is waiting...,"
			*		*		*

Her hands moved on their own accord. The atmosphere of the firing
range was filled with the steady ring of gunfire and smelled of gun powder.
Abruptly is stopped. The spent shells fell to the ground moments later
clattering to a halt. Sighing, she ejected the clip.
"I figured I'd find you here," A gruff voice said. Jeena imediatly
glanced at the open doorway. "No patrol cars were sighed out by anyone in
the Tac Squads." Dieork mentioned off hand.
"So whom and I to patrol with, commander." She twisted the last word
bitterly. She turned to face the vetern soldier. "Why the hell did you
keep it from me?" She demanded, "Your no longer our squad leader. Don't you
higher ups have anything better to do that screw around with *MY* squad."
 Dieork's face turned serious.
"I have to approve all transfers of Tactical Squad members so it *IS*
my buissness. Jeena, I thought it would be best for squad performance if the
information of the transfer was withheld."
"The squad's performance or mine?" Jeena shook her head. "If that
accident didn't happen, what the hell was I supposed to do with one less
member? Ever consider that?" The women challenged.
"Today was only supposed to be Leon's preliminary meeting. But as
circumstances occured... He'll be notified about that today." Dieork gave
her a quizical look. "Why do you care anyways? I've transfered men from
your unit on short notice before?" Jeena slammed another clip into the
semi-automatic setting sights on the target down range. Her arm ached
slightly but steadidly. She recognized the feeling from so long ago.
"Jenna?" He asked sensing something amiss.
"It doesn't concern you." The commander shrugged and exited.
Carefully, she placed the gun down putting on the safetly. She gripped her
right shoulder massaging it gently trying to force the phantom pains away.
"Strange," she mumured in apprehension. They had dissappeared so long ago.

"Joined N-Police '26. Volunteered for AD Police duty '27. Two
commendations for valor and being wounded four times, once in a training
excercises." Chief Toodu looked up from the computer screen. "Your scores
on the written and verbal test are very admirable, for someone in the
tactical squads." Leon bit back a remark.
"I've had some unoffical investigative experiance," He shuddered
a bit remembering the 'Phantom' case and the 'Ripper' case. On the former,
he almost bought the farm. The later was just plain disturbing. His new
superior nodded.
"So I assume you are at least familar with the proper procedures and
rules of your new position." He almost spat in disgust. The damn guy was
treating him like a damn rookie. "You've met Inspector Nagamo. For now,
you'll be his partner. Learn from him, he's one of are best of the few we've
got." Leon blinked in surprise.
"Wait? What about my squad? Isn't their paper work and red tape
crap?" Toodu bristled in annoyance.
"The death of your comrade and the hospitilization of most of your
squad dealt with that. My sypathies. In all intents and purposes, you are
transfered." Leon nodded mind buzzing half in excitement and half in regret.
He never meant to just leave the Tactical Squads. 'Well it wasn't like he
was leaving the city or anything,' he thought.
The chief looked back at the computer screen ignoring the two for a
moment. "Well?" he looked back up, "Don't you two have a case to work on?
Dismissed." The two nodded and left. Leon waited a moment before speaking
up.
	"Man what an.."
"Asshole," Nagamo finished for him. "Yeah, the old man can get
under your skin."
"What next? Some kind of initionation?" He smirked.
"Real mature you Tactical guys." Leon shook his head.
"No one bothered even getting to know a rookie, well most of them.
[Jeena was different.]
They only did if you survived the first couple days. No sense in getting to
know someone when you'll be identifying their pieces in the morgue an hour
later."
Nagamo groaned, "What a cheerful little bunch you hung around with."
Though he was tempted to unleash some of the inter-service rivary jokes, he
decided against it. He wasn't a trooper any more so it didn't really
matter.

Unlike the other parts of the AD Police complex, the vehicale bay
was always busy and loud. Mechanics and techs would constantly be repairing
the under armored and outdated equipment. More often then not, they would be
scraping those damaged way beyond repair just like their crews. Jeena slowly
walked to towards the patrol car staging area. Why did she care so much
about the transfer? Maybe it was because they were partners for so long.
Maybe it was that they had seen so much crap together. Maybe even she
lov...
She thrust that idea out of her mind. That was one thing she was sure of.
Leon was nice and all, a bit of an idealist at times though two years
of duty wore away at it. A lot like those rookies drawn in by the
recruitment ads. Her mind buzzed with reasons. He was her friend, a close
one. The dull ache continued in her arm. She looked down at the thing. She
hated it. It felt slightly ackward. The micro servos clicked and whirled as
she stretched a little to drive away the feeling.
She chuckled remembering Leon's intial reaction to her. The sound of
her dogtags and cybernetics caused him to freak out. He never did mind the
artifical limb. Weird considering he believed recieving cyberentics meant
that you were throwing away your humanity. She didn't throw her arm away.
She bit her lip as the memory of it being torn from her body echoed into her
mind. She didn't want to have a piece of technology grafted to her nerve
Jenna heard the voices as they exited the elevator.
"...nice suit but to go semi-casual. Those starched outfits don't
let you move around comfortablely. Look respectable though. What piece are
you carry any ways?"
	"...revolver. A beauty isn't it."
"Nice, get rid of the damn thing. Your covering my ass out their.
Carry an automatic."
"I've got quickloaders so what's your beef. I've got more stopping
power anyways."
"What if the target runs left?"
"Give me a break man." Jeena turned to walk towards the other
direction. Footsteps rapidly echoed through the large garage heading towards
her. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a hand grabbing for her arm.
			*		*		*

"Hey Jenna wait up?" He found himself in an arm lock and slammed
into the wall her elbow pressed against his through. Her eyes bored into
his. Time seemed to slow down for him. He saw rage and anger burning
brightly in those eyes. Then he glimpsed something deep down...
"What the fuck do you want?" She demanded. He turned away trying to
loosen the preasure on his neck. Jeena pulled back her arm.
"An explanation damnit!" He practically shouted. Techs turned to
look to see what was going on. Jeena grabbed Leon and pulled him into a
large storage room.
"I want an explanation," He repeated more calmly. "of why you
practically attacked me this morning. Do you know I tried to have the
front desk page you? This has been bothering me all day!"
"I shut off the comlink," she gestured to the pager watch
combination most members of the ADP wore.
"So why? Your avoiding the answer. I thought we were friends."
Leon felt at a loss with the word friends. Their should have been a 'deeper'
word for it, something to explain their clossness that wasn't true love.
"Why? I thought you were one of us; I was wrong." She spat.
Something didn't feel right.
"Interservice rivalry?!" Leon shouted in disbelief. "We fought
together, watched friends die together, and you think I'm like those glory
hunters." He pointed to the ceiling towards the investigations section.
"Then why transfer. While your out their looking through files and
studying corpses, we'll be out their fighting and dying." It seemed
reflexive, her words, like a calculated half-truth.
"Do you think I don't care about people's lives? I didn't just join
to be some detective or even because my father and grandfather were. Yes,
I've dreamed of becoming a detective all my life, but I still care when
people do die."
"There's a difference. We don't off avenging people already dead, we
don't wait for people to die before we go out and risk our lives." [No..no
it wasn't suppose to happen this way.] Another voice joined {How could he
know? How could he understand?} She clenched her fist as if to drive away
the voice-thoughts from her mind.
Mind still fresh with the memory of Jenna's strike against the wall
of her apartment, Leon stepped back warily. "Fine then, if you feel this
way, I don't care anymore. I'm not going to give up my dreams." His voice
was so full of anger and betrayl so much like her own earliar. He stormed
out of the room angrily leaving Jeena alone in the storage room.
"Why not," She whispered to herself, "I already have." She hugged
herself. She flinched as the cold-metal cybernetic limb touched flesh.
			*		*		*

"REPEAT ALL UNITS SCRAMBLE. COMBAT BOOMER SIGHTED AT......," Leon
grabbed his shoulder hostler off his desk and raced to the elevator. As he
reached his squad car. He pasted by a group of troopers rushing towards a
battered APC. The two familar faces didn't even exchange a word or second
glance as they ran by each other.

Sequal in the works.....
