Today, one of my best friends killed himself. After I recieved the news, I
wrote this poem. This is my way of dealing with one of the harshest
emotional blows in my life. I knew my friend for 12 of my 17 years. Please
return some C&C my way. I would really appreciate.
For anyone who cares, I live in Larimar County, in Colorado. It has the
highest suicide rate among teens in the nation.
My poem is titled "Confusion."
Thomas Hamill,
who is really depressed right now.
GOOD GOD I hate being an expert on this. But after three attempts by
myself and more succesfull attempts by my friends then I'm willing to
count, I don't really have much of a choice. Perhaps I can help you in
some tiny way. You know those questions you have? The unanswerable ones
that eat at your gut? Well take heart in that your friend found his
answers. They weren't the right ones and the payment for the solution
will be pain for those who loved him, but he DID get answers. Most
suicidal people are in INCREDIBLE pain, the questions being more then
their hearts can bear. You can rest assured that he now knows peace.
Ever listen to the MASH theme, Suicide is Painless (not to the
survivors)? From the movie? It might help you like it has helped me in
the past.
If you need someone to talk to, and as one who has been on both sides
of the knife, let me know. I am here for you and anyone who suffers
under this illness. As I've said before, deppresion is a disease, just
as fatal as AIDS, the only difference is that it makes you the
instrument for your own demise.
