Someone else will no doubt say "DO NOT use the Viz translations!!" but
that's
the beauty of so many diverse personalities, right? :-)
The difference between Ryouga and Ryoga should indicate the difference
between a long and a short vowel sound for the 'o', right? But since
the transliterations are principally for english speakers, and every
english dialect would pronounce Ryoga with a long vowel anyway, the
Ryouga spelling, while probably a bit more accurate, becomes redundant.
Nightmares like Jyuusennkyouu occur when you try to put every nuance of
Japanese pronunciation into an english transliteration. It seems like a
waste of time. English speakers are just going to pronounce it with
their bad english accents anyway, so might as well make it easier to
read. Japanese speakers will undoubtably recognize the word anyway and
know how to say it correctly.
