Two curse ideas:

A petty thief escaping from the law comes to the springs and falls into
Spring of Drowned Ferret.  After getting over the shock of being a
ferret, he starts to use his new form to take advantage of people and
continue stealing until someone puts a stop to him.

A boy about Ranma's age, out wandering the world training comes to
Jusenkyo.  While attempting to train he falls into the Spring of Drowned
Mage.  With his new found powers he has to face down some new evil.  Of
course he loses his powers when splashed with hot water.
