Well, the spam count seems to be rising slightly... tsk tsk.
Over the past few days, the fanfic sendmail prog has been doling out
messages sent to me during the list shutdown.. so if I haven't answered
your question yet, be paitent. It just means I haven't recieved your
letter of a month ago.
More fun news: I crack down immediately (well, relatively quickly) on
non-productive posts and threads. However, a great deal of the spam is of
the semi-productive sort... character discussion, and the ilk. I don't
crack down on this sort - the list does require this sort of spam, and fic
ideas often grow from it - but I do ask that you excerice restraint. As a
result, a sort of 'report card' will be sent out at the end of the month
to those who have, IMHO, been a bit too active in their participation.
It's not really a punishment or a rebuke, just a friendly request from
your good buddy Tybalt to be a tad less productive.
If I have to send one again next month - THEN it becomes a rebuke.
A note on the killfile thread - I was enjoying RL, and so didn't see this
until it had mostly burnt out. I suppose it wasn't as bad as it could have
been, but.... next time, please deliver rejoinders in private mail, ne?
While your views on what a proper R1/2 fic should be like are no doubt
important to you, Redneck, you wrote that in a manner asking to be flamed.
As for Richard; yes, very nice speech on life, liberty, and why my fanfic
are how I want them to be. Send it direct to Redneck next time, especially
if you're going to use the phrase "Hypocrite" in it. We do not tolerate
flames, be they justified or not. Even if Adolf Hitler joined the list,
you would not be allowed to flame him publicly. (Privately is cool, and
the Fuhrer would be booted the instant he made a racist remark).
The FFML is a community of writers and avid readers. When you join this
community, you are expected to behave with the decorum your membership
requires. Discussions will be carried on in a civilized, calm fashion,
without recourse to namecalling or personal attacks. If you wish to stoop
to such levels, you may do so via private mail, but you will not flame via
this mailing list. There is _no_ justification.
What separates a flame from a civilized discussion? Well, personal
attacks are a flame. Negative comment meant to wound, not to help or
improve, are a flame. If I write to John Biles telling him that I really
hated his story, and here's why - that's not a flame, that's useful
commentary. If I write to John telling him that his story sucks and he's
an idiot and why does he bother writing this crap -that's a flame.
As always, if you have questions, comments, or protests, feel free to
respond to me via private mail. Please don't feel free to respond to the
list.
