It was in the manga too, but this is Soun we're talking about.  He may
have thought he was halucinating (he does live in Nerima after all).  I
would think that if he believed what he saw he would have taken steps to
prevent Ryoga from sleeping with Akane, but that's just my take on things.
He may know, the question is whether he belives.
