Compassion for others is encouraged, but it is useless unless one puts
one's brain into operation and checks things out. Circulating this
letter might give you a case of the warm and fuzzies, but it does
absolutely nothing to help anyone in need. Your time and effort could be
far better spent doing things that DO make a difference. THAT is the
evil of that letter: making you feel like you've done something to help
when you haven't.
