Sorry about my first message, it got messed up.

I think Akane DOES treat Ranma like a prize to be won to a certain 
extent...why else would she mallet him when Shampoo glomps onto him, or 
fight Shampoo for Ranma (see the "Sai Fang Hang Gal Shiatsu Attack(sp?)" 
episode; she doesn't admit she's fighting Shampoo for Ranma but it seems 
like she is).
