Shortly after having posted this fanfic, I was notified of several grammatical
problems in Ch. 5. As these may have made it difficult
to read, I have decided to release a corrected version of the block.
Those of you keeping this on a disk will want this version!

Oh, I don't know if I've already said this, but this is NOT
intended to be a strategy guide to "Blood Omen:Legacy of Kain."
I will be overlooking mazes often in order to get to the story.
However, the story itself will follow as closely as I can allow
it.

Chapter 4:
A lesson as to the value of blood.
Kasumi, ignoring the sting of the newly-risen sun, walks through
the congested alleyways of the mega city of Steinchencroe. She
shakes her head in distaste and disbelief at the filthy, rat-
infested streets, seething with the petty beggars and thieves
that shared a place in the order of life with the rats. However,
even her eyes shine in a cynical version of wonder as the scum
runs away from her, panicked upon seeing her and ran from her
with all speed.
KASUMI:<Before, this was the place where I'd most expect to be
killed, mugged or raped. So funny that I now walk here now, my
life and purity taken from me.> [bares her fangs in a mocking
grin] <I fit like a glove here, yet they won't accept me.>
Her steady march along the scum-laden acropolis pauses in a
corner behind a building bearing the name "Big Horn Brothel,"
where she spots a large bald-headed man stirring a pot of some
sort of strange gray liquid in front of him with a wooden stick.
The man notices Kasumi and looks up at her, a dark look in his
eyes that suggested that she was who he wanted to see.
KASUMI:<Okay, so this loon's actually GLAD to see me. Perhaps
his madness will reveal a greater truth.> [Voice hard as iron]
Tell me, sir, do you want something from me?
MAN[distant, wiry voice]:The bastards here shunned me, as Nosgoth
shunned them. I don't fear you, vampire; nay, I know the feeling
of being an outsider. However, there are other people who would
speak to you, so long as you know how to LOOK... [Looks back down
at his pot].
KASUMI[bewildered]:What do you mean "How to look?!?"
The man rocks in place humming a nonsense tune as he stirs his
pot.
KASUMI:Gods! Say something, madman!
No response, more humming.
KASUMI[turning away, angry]:The hell with you, then!
Kasumi walks on toward the gateway to the road to Vasserbunde.
At the gate stands an armor-clad guardsman with a halberd in his
hands, the stern expression on his face hiding his hopeful heart.
GUARD:<Almost the end of my shift. Just a few more weeks, just a
little more gold, and I'll be able to get my family out of this
hellhole and start a tavern, and a new life, in Willendorf...>
He sees Kasumi walking up to the gate, her sword held loosely in
her right hand. Upon seeing her golden eyes and dead skin, he
gets into fighting stance.
GUARD[shouting in a commanding tone]:Vampire! You're not welcome
here!
KASUMI[shouting casually]:Funny, I was just about to leave.
GUARD:Right after murdering a few innocents, I suppose. I can't
let you live!
KASUMI[smugly]:You don't know what you're getting into, little
boy.
GUARD:I'll show you!
The guardsman charges at Kasumi as fast as possible, halberd
ready to strike. Kasumi just stands there as though there wasn't
a man in white armor ready to cleave her.
KASUMI:Such a fool. [Her left arm begins to surge with
electrical energy].
GUARD[Leaping at Kasumi, halberd out]:Haaaaaa!
Kasumi raises her left arm, aiming her palm at the guardsman.
KASUMI:ENERGY BOLT! [A bolt of raw lightning shoots out from her
left arm and hits the guardsman]
The guardsman's body instantly explodes, sending bones and limbs
flying all over the place. His blood rains down on Kasumi
gently, covering her armor and the ground around her.
KASUMI[nervous, looking at her trembling left arm]:Oh... Oh
God... What was that...!?
Kasumi runs through, tears running down her cheeks and sobs
escaping her throat. She stops several yards away, in a sparse
stretch of forest overlooking a gypsy camp. Sitting under a tree
with her knees close to her chest, she begins crying
uncontrollably.
KASUMI:<Why!?! Why did he... Have to die?! All he was doing was
trying to save his town...> [her tears fade away, and her face
becomes blank and distant. Her voice becomes cold]... From...
>From ME...
Kasumi looks at her left palm. It shows no signs of the
lightning that she had used to kill that guardsman.
KASUMI:What did I DO? Was that like those "martial arts" that
daddy had been teaching Akane? No, this is very different. I
wonder what else I can do... "there are other people who would
speak to you, so long as you know how to look..." ...
Kasumi walks along the road, which is richer in grassland than
trees. By nightfall, she reaches a gypsy camp, the town of
Vasserbunde up ahead in the horizon.
KASUMI:<I'm not going to get anywhere getting into a battle here;
that'll alert the townsfolk. I'm going to have to think of
something...> [she feels a magic like that which had encompassed
her arm come over her].
A bright blue light suddenly encompasses her body, and her armor
is replaced by a plain red cloak and black belt w/ sheath; her
flesh gains the color of life. Kasumi looks at herself and
smiles.
KASUMI[delighted]:<Woah, where did this come from! I'm human
again...> [shakes her head]. <No. This is magic, like the
lightning bolt which killed that innocent guard in Steinchencroe.
This is my OWN work, somehow.> [places her sword in the sheath]
Kasumi, not wanting to use up the spell just standing there,
decides to go into the camp. Walking through, she looks at the
various tents with amusement.
KASUMI:<Ah yes, the gypsies, peddlers of deceit and superstition.
I'd just as well take their babble with a pinch of salt, as they
spend half their time playing with travelers' minds, but they
sometimes actually say something useful.>
A weary gypsy woman steps up to her, in a blue rider's dress.
GYPSY WOMAN:Hello ma'am. Do you have any news from Avernus?
KASUMI[confused]:Avernus? Why do you ask?
GYPSY WOMAN:The caravans that normally come from there weekly
have yet to arrive.
KASUMI[suspicious]:<Whatever one could say when speaking of the
gypsies, and I've plenty TO say, they never miss an appointment,
and they NEVER abandon their own. For a caravan of theirs not to
arrive when expected is strange indeed.> [neutral] I'm sorry,
milady, but I know not of the situation in Avernus; my travels
have not brought me there in a long time. Perhaps I shall return
if I end up there.
GYPSY WOMAN:Well, I thank ye anyhow. Fare you well, girl.
KASUMI[bowing]:Fare you well.
Kasumi walks past the woman and toward the end of the camp, where
she meets a sturdy young man in a white shirt and green pants.
KASUMI:Hello sir. Would you know where the Mentalist Yuta lives?
The man stares in disbelief at Kasumi.
MAN[incredulously]:Are you mad, woman!? That Yuta is out of his
mind!
KASUMI:I know. Now, where is he?
MAN:He lives in a mountain retreat west of Vasserbunde.
KASUMI:Thank you, young sir. [Walks past the young man]
Kasumi walks through the sparsely inhabited path to Vasserbunde,
making there in little more than ten minutes. She is immediately
greeted by two guardsmen who hurry her into the town.
GUARDSMAN #1:It's not safe for ladies to be travelin' alone!
GUARDSMAN #2:You should get to the inn right away!
Kasumi glares at guardsman #1, who is taken aback by her cold
eyes.
KASUMI[icily]:I am very will capable of caring for my own well-
being. <I ought to feed on these idiots, just to prove that.>
Tell me, what do you know of the Mentalist Yuta?
GUARDSMAN #2:Whatever for?
KASUMI[angry]:Just answer the question, you worthless pile of
excrement!!
GUARDSMAN #2:<Saucy one, ain't she?> He's one of the Circle of
Nine, and has been causing problems for us with his magic.
Pilgrims come to him on a regular basis. Strange thing is, so
many go in, but I ain't never seen one come out!
GUARDSMAN #1:He has some servants, y'know. One of them managed
to escape from his retreat, a girl named Natsuko, I believe. The
poor girl was white as sheet, she was so scared.
KASUMI[curious]:Where is this Natsuko?
GUARDSMAN #1:Sorry, but she fled after spending a night in the
inn; said she was going to Ziegsturhl.
KASUMI:<I hope she never has to go through this.> That's bad to
hear; I'd like to have spoken to her of Yuta. Oh well. Now, if
you two would leave me, I have to go somewhere. <Nothing I
didn't know. Dammit!>
Kasumi walks toward the western side of town, well past those
guardsmen. Suddenly, her knees begin to wobble and her shoulders
get heavy.
KASUMI[fearful]:<Oh shit! I haven't fed since those men outside
of Ziegsturhl. I've got to find someone, fast.>
[She notices a little girl with a small handbag by a small house,
picking the few flowers in the field in front of it. Kasumi's
fangs begin to wetten with hunger]
KASUMI:<She'll not last too long, but long enough to get to an
adult without fainting.> [Concerned] <But she's so innocent; she
doesn't deserve to die...> [Her left knee gives in, and she
falls on her hands to the floor]. [Somberly] <What must be...>
Kasumi stands back up and walks slowly to the girl.
KASUMI[motherly]:Hello, little one. What's your name?
GIRL[in a cute, innocent voice]:I'm Yoshiko! And you?
KASUMI:I'm Kasumi. Say, isn't it kinda late you for you to be
up?
YOSHIKO:Naw, I can stay up a little longer.
KASUMI:If you say so. [Looks at Yoshiko's long brown hair]. You
have pretty hair.
YOSHIKO[smiling]:Thank you, Kasumi.
KASUMI:Maybe I could... Comb it for you?
YOSHIKO:Sure. You have a brush?
KASUMI:<Oh, damn!> [Sheepishly, while scratching her head] No.
I was hoping you knew where I could get one.
YOSHIKO:That's okay. I already have one. [Looks into her
handbag, pulls out a red brush, and hands it to Kasumi]
KASUMI[taking the brush]:Thank you. Say, can we go somewhere
where people aren't looking? I'm kinda shy, ya'know.
YOSHIKO[reluctant]:I'm not sure... Mommy always said never to go
away from the house with strangers...
KASUMI[feigning concern]:You trust me, don't you?
YOSHIKO:Um.... [Nodding] Yeah! I know this little place near the
western road. [Holds out her hand]
KASUMI[Taking the hand in her own]:Okay. [Kasumi feels Yoshiko's
pulse, and her own hunger intensifies]. <Oh god, please forgive
me...>
Yoshiko leads Kasumi over to the road leading west out of town,
and to a growth of bushes along it. Yoshiko and Kasumi hide
behind the bush.
KASUMI:Well, this is a weird hiding place. You sure nobody will
see us?
YOSHIKO[nodding]:Nobody!
KASUMI:Well then, turn around. Let me comb your hair.
Yoshiko turns her back to Kasumi.
KASUMI:Could you tilt your head to a side, please? It's easier
that way.
YOSHIKO:Okay!
Yoshiko tilts her head to the right, exposing her left shoulder
and neck.
KASUMI[mouth beginning to water]:<I should just make it quick...>
Kasumi's hands begin to tremble as she runs the brush through
Yoshiko's hair.
YOSHIKO:Kasumi...
KASUMI:Yes?
YOSHIKO:Thanks.
KASUMI:For what?
YOSHIKO:For being so nice to me. Nobody's been nice to me since
daddy died, and mommy likes to hit me a lot. [sighs happily]. I
wish I never had to go back...
Tears begin to well up in Kasumi's eyes as she undoes her magical
disguise, returning to her vampiric state. She turns her eyes to
Yoshiko's neck.
KASUMI[sorrowful]:I'm... Sorry... [With lightning quickness, she
lunges her head and buries her fangs into Yoshiko's neck and
begins drawing blood]
Yoshiko lets out a scream, but Kasumi quickly puts a hand over
her mouth to keep that from happening. After a while, when
Yoshiko's body grows limp, Kasumi removes her hand.
YOSHIKO[faintly]:Kasumi... Why are you... Hurting me...? I
thought... We were... We were... Fri... Friends... [dies].
Kasumi, having drained Yoshiko dry, removes her fangs from her
neck and lets her body fall to the floor. She then stands up,
unsheathes her sword, and runs down the lonely road to Yuta's
retreat.
KASUMI[crying profusely]:<Damn! I hate this! I hate it all...!>
begins lashing her sword wildly]. <Why did I accept Rezo's
offer!?> [Feels her skin burn from her tears, but pays no mind to
it]
She suddenly hears a man screaming in pain, and her tears
subside.
KASUMI[smiling grimly]:<At least... At least there is someone out
there who is suffering more than myself.>
Heavy of heart, she continues her run toward Yuta's retreat. The
skull face of the retreat looms atop a cliff in the distance,
beckoning her.

COMING SOON!!!! CHAPTER 5:I shall NOT deny you!
_________________________________________________________________
Now, the war against the Circle begins...
Chapter 5:
I shall NOT deny you!
Kasumi stands in front of a cave on a sharp cliff, a harsh,
battle-ready look on her face.
KASUMI:Well, no other place to go. This must lead to Yuta's
retreat.
She walks inside the dark cavern, sword at the ready as she walks
forth.
KASUMI:<So, how the hell am I supposed to get to the man from
here.>
As she gets further from the entrance to the cave, the darkness
increases, eventually encompassing her in a blanket of blindness.
KASUMI<Hmm...> [Raises her right hand]. LIGHT!
A ball of white energy emerges from her hand, illuminating the
room, then rises to the roof and sticks to it, looking almost
like a lamp.
KASUMI:<That's gonna be helpful.>
Looking ahead, Kasumi sees a broad, distant corridor with large
puddles of dirty water on the floor and people in ragged clothes
chained to the walls; at the end of the corridor is a broad
double-door.
KASUMI:Well, it seems that Yuta knew I was coming.
Careful not to step in any of the puddles, Kasumi walks over to a
woman on the right wall, paces from the double-door.
WOMAN[pleading]:Ma'am. Please help me..!
Kasumi grins in amusement.
KASUMI[sharply]:You pathetic little fool. I'm sure you came here
looking for the advice of the Mentalist Yuta.
The woman nods, disgraced.
KASUMI[her contempt for these people showing in her cold eyes and
icy tone]:All of you people left your homes, your FAMILIES, to
seek the comfort of his LIES!!!
The woman looks in Kasumi's gleaming eyes in fear.
WOMAN:Oh my god, you're a...
KASUMI:Vampire? [Slaps the woman hard across the face, exposing
her neck]. You should have been able to see your fate when you
came. [Gently moves her face over to the woman's and bits her
neck hard, drawing her blood quickly].
The woman lets out a panicked scream, but there is only the
fearful screams of the other people in the corridor to serve as
acknowledgement as Kasumi drains the life out of her victim. The
woman's screams fade as she goes limp with death in seconds.
KASUMI[pulling out from the body]:<The girl tasted better.>
Kasumi, now fully energized, rushes into the door. Upon seeing a
flight of stairs leading to another door, she hustles up
effortlessly and busts through the door, which leads to a narrow
pathway leading to what could only be called a common room. The
floor is marred by mutilated bodies and spattered blood, which
also joins the various fine paintings on the walls.
VOICE[Deep, studly voice]:Who DARES intrude my home!
LEEEAAAVVVE! Leave and let my solitude be complete!
KASUMI:Well, Yuta, it seems you've REALLY gone out of your way to
provide refreshments. I hope you have the entertainment as well.
After all, I wouldn't like to get too bored.
Two groups of skeletons, armed with longswords, appear suddenly
from out of nowhere and rush toward Kasumi, three per group.
KASUMI:I said ENTERTAINMENT! <Wait...> [The skeletons close
in]. <NOW!> [backflips away from the groups, who stop just
short of slamming into eachother]
The skeletons turn to face Kasumi again, who in turn faces her
six foes.
KASUMI:Come! Come, and experience death once again! [Readies
herself]
The skeletons charge after Kasumi, who waits with a grin on her
face.
KASUMI:<1...2...3!!>
Kasumi runs into the skeletons and decimates them in short order.
She then stands in the pile of bones and runs her free hand
through her hair.
KASUMI[caustic]:The bad thing about undead is that you can't even
feed on them...
Looking for another door in the common room, she finds a body
curiously nailed onto the right wall.
KASUMI[walking to the body]:Well, this is creative.
Once she reaches the wall, she pulls the bloodless body from the
wall, revealing a gold double-door.
KASUMI[smiling a deep, fang-bearing smile]:You're a weird one,
Yuta. [Walks through the door]
She looks about the room, seeing aisle after aisle of books of
varying widths. At the end of this library is another double-
door. She walks silently to the door and opens it, revealing a
bloodstained staircase leading upward.
KASUMI:Another stairway. This is starting to become a trend in
this home. [goes up the stairway].
Opening a wooden door at the top of the stairs, she sees various
cooking utensils strewn out about the floor along with the gored
bodies of the cooks who had used them at one time.
KASUMI:<Bastard...! To waste blood like THIS!>
Kasumi walks to the wooden door at the left wall and found two
skeletons and a zombie.
KASUMI[sarcastic]:Please! [extends her left arm at the undead].
ENERGY BOLT!
Three lightning bolts shoot out from her hand and cause the three
enemies to explode inststantly.
KASUMI:<Really! There has to be something other than undead to
fight here!>
Looking around this new room, she sees a long dining table,
nothing in the way of bodies or blood at all. At the wall to her
left, an open wooden door leads to another upward staircase,
which she moves toward.
KASUMI:<Here it comes, good sir!>
A woman's whimper suddenly emerges in the direction of the door
opposite the kitchen door.
KASUMI[turning to the sound]:Food...
Kasumi walks over to the door and kicks it down, seeing a woman
in a tattered maid's uniform, her teeth broken and her eyes
swollen shut.
KASUMI:What the...
MAID:Get away while you can, lady. Yuta-sama's gone mad!!
KASUMI:What's going on here!? Why is everyone dead!?
MAID:When news of Mana's death reached my lord, he went on a
rampage, killing or maiming whatever was there. He... He sowed
his eyes shut, scarred his face and... [begins crying wildly].
KASUMI:<Hmph. It would seem that Yuta's sole reason for his
lunacy is his self-pity. And as for this girl... Scars like that
will never heal. Death... Would only be a mercy!>
Kasumi walks over to the woman, tilts her head, and buries her
fangs in her neck, sucking the blood from the woman, who stays
silent until death.
KASUMI[admiringly]:<Oh, how sweet... How wonderful she tasted...>
[slowly licks her lips in appreciation]
Kasumi leaves that room and goes to the staircase, bounding
effortlessly up the stairs and busting open the door. In this
small room, she finds a suit of samurai armor with a katana sword
in it's right hand.
KASUMI:Cute. What a nice set of armor. I wonder if it's
supposed to scare me.
The armor's arms begin to move slowly, as if it were a man who
hadn't used his muscles in years. After a few seconds, it gets
into fighting stance.
KASUMI[readying herself]:<I'm not scared, but I AM nervous!>
ARMOR:Get ye away, girl, else you suffer my blade!
KASUMI[a false confidence in her voice]:I think not.
The armor rushes toward Kasumi, getting closer and closer with
each second.
KASUMI[gathering her magical energy]:<I hope this works!>
[Raises her left arm to the armor]. ENERGY BO--.
VOICE:STOP, KUNO!
The armor stops dead in it's tracks and turned around. Where
Kuno had been standing stood a young man in blue pants and a
white shirt, who would have been handsome if not for his
grotesque, scarred face and his sown shut eyelids.
MAN:Have you come to fail the Circle AGAIN, Tatewaki Kuno? Leave
this place; you are NOT needed here!
The armor fades away and disappears.
KASUMI[to the man]:I take it that you are the Mentalist, Yuta of
the Circle of Nine.
YUTA[MAN]:Yes, I am...! [Raises his hands to the sky]. Come,
vampire! Come, share my pain...! [Fades away and disappears]
Kasumi walks toward where the man had been, now disappears the
door that had been hidden behind him.
KASUMI:No doubt this leads to Yuta. [runs through the door,
revealing another staircase].
Going up the staircase and into the next room. The three doors
beckon her, motionlessly hinting Yuta's presence behind them.
With a sigh, she runs through the center door. In this room is a
platform, with spikes on the floor at each side. At the other
end of the room, in front of another door, stands Yuta with his
arms folded.
(BGM:"Irresponsible Hate Anthem.")
KASUMI[grinning like an idiot]:<So this is Yuta, this broken,
PATHETIC little man.>
YUTA:Prepare yourself, vampire...!
KASUMI:<Yet, as crippled as he is, he won't go down without a
fight.> [Gets into fighting stance]. Very well then, Yuta! If
it is DEATH you seek, I SHALL NOT DENY YOU!!!
As the last word escapes Kasumi's lips, a line of large green
spheres, a pink one at each end, appears in front of the
mentalist, going across the width of the platform. The spheres
methodically approach Kasumi.
KASUMI[approaching slowly]:<So, he intends to mow me down with
this, does he? This might be difficult...>
Suddenly, the pink ones disappear.
KASUMI:An opening!
Runs for the left edge and through the space. Looking back a
split second, she sees that the pink spheres return from whence
the went, then she turns her head to Yuta again.
KASUMI[swinging her sword at Yuta's torso]:HAAAAAH!
Her sword tears Yuta's shirt and flesh, sending a gush of blood
to the floor, but Yuta doesn't seem to notice. Instead, he
disappears, then reappears at the side where Kasumi had been
before.
YUTA:You think you can hurt me? [His wound closes itself up
instantly].
The spheres disappear just before they hit Yuta, to be replaced
by another set which appear in front of Yuta and approach Kasumi
again. This time, however, the two pink spheres are in the
center.
KASUMI[running to the center spheres]:<I hope I've timed this
right!>
Kasumi gets closer and closer to the spheres, hoping that they
disappear before she hits them. She is just about to hit them
when they suddenly vanish from sight.
KASUMI[going through the space where the spheres had been]:<All
right!!>
With an unheard of strength, Kasumi rams her blade deep into
Yuta's chest. He produces a grunt, then smiles and disappears.
KASUMI[turning around]:Something different, please!
Yuta appears again, this time in the center of the platform, four
human skulls spinning in mid-air around him.
KASUMI:Not bad.
YUTA:Nothing you can do can POSSIBLY damage me, vampire!
KASUMI:There's still one thing I haven't tried yet!
Kasumi runs toward Yuta, her sword gleaming in front of her.
With a desperate swing, she hits one of the skulls, sending them
flying off in different directions before they disappear. She
then gets in front of Yuta, who is standing there in total shock.
YUTA:<She saw through my move!>
KASUMI[stabbing Yuta in the heart]:You fool! [Pulls her sword
from his heart and stabs his lungs quickly]. To think that you
tried to stand up to me! [placing the blade by his neck] Now
prepare to DIE! [cuts Yuta's head off].
The head of the mentalist falls to the floor, followed by his
limp, lifeless body. Kasumi leans on her sword as she looks at
her handiwork.
(BGM fades away)
KASUMI[breathing heavy]:<That was difficult. I wonder if he's
dead.>
Ten seconds pass with nothing happening.
KASUMI:He's gone. [Picking up Yuta's head] Perhaps the head of
her beloved will convince Yuta that I've completed my task.
Methodically, she walks over to the door Yuta had been blocking
at the beginning and walks through it. The door leads to an open
balcony.
KASUMI:Well, it's time I got back to the pillars.
Her body glows blue with magic as her body changes into that of a
bat. She clutches a bit of Yuta's hair in her teeth, her sword
with her feet, and flies away. The forests of Nosgoth pass her
as she flies at top speed toward the Pillars. Upon getting
there, she lands atop the platform and returns to human form,
clutching her sword in her right hand and Yuta's head in her
left.
KASUMI:<Mana said I was supposed to offer something to the Pillar
he had served... The Mind it was, I believe.>
She walks up to the pillar of the mind and examines it's dull,
cracked surface, then looks at Yuta's head.
KASUMI:<Alas, poor Yuta; I knew him well...> [Casually tossing
Yuta's head at the pillar <Well, not really.>
As the head meets the pillar, a sort of vortex appears upon the
pillar and swallows the head. Then the pillar's cracks close up
and it's surface turns gleaming white.
KASUMI:<A job well done.> [Steps back to look at the other
pillars]. Why don't the other's heal.
Mana appears suddenly from the Pillar of Balance.
MANA:It would seem that the madness has already affected the
others. You must seek them all out now, Kasumi.
KASUMI:Damn...!
MANA:I am sorry. I never knew this would happen.
KASUMI[darkly]:Don't worry, Mana. If the salvation of your
friends can only be found in death, in ME... They will find their
DELIVERANCE!!!!
Fade to black.

This episode introduced one new character:Yuta.
Yuta was picked as Nupraptor solely for one reason:The only way
to kill him is to sever his head. In the game, Nupraptor's head
is the item that is needed to restore the Pillar of the mind.
Nuff said.
C&C is alwayz welcome. Thanks to those who deserve it. It's
