I really couldn't say... I admit guilty to being on this list merely to see
fanfics in creation and I haven't contributed much. Well... I have now and
then, but I haven't posted a finished fanfic before. (I'm only known for
spamfics - the last of which involved Ranma's unseen fiancee, the one who
piloted a labor in greater metropolitan Tokyo... - and there was one about
Chun Li tracking Ryu all the way to Nerima). Those were quickies and the
only mood I'm in when I write them is boredom... I notice something on the
list and suddenly I get an idea flash and quickly write it down - sometimes
I post them (like in the above examples, mostly not).
But as for writing actually fics (which I really should start posting
soon), I like a bit of music to set the mood. For my Ranma1/2-Patlabor
fanfic I'm currently working on (in between summer classes), I play Doco or
the Patlabor Complete Vocal Collection - certain tracks only. Which ones
depend on where I'm guessing the plot will be going (I usually have a good
idea, but it's never set in stone). But the moment I sit down to start
punching at my keyboard, the music goes off. I like it quiet when I work.
The silence lets my thoughts flow undisturbed as the story writes itself.
BEN
PS: for those of you wondering, the StreetFighter2-Ranma1/2 fic never took
off. I'm liked the premise for the Ranma-Patlabor fic better and I've been
working on that lately. "Sakura's Story" is on indefinite hiatus.

Subject: [FFML] The Writing Process

The process the casual writer and the professional writer does to
prepare him or her self for writing a fanfic is most important. To
some its habit, others its to get in the mood. Its the processes we
follow that may be what makes us different types of writers.
So my question is this:
What do you do to get in the mood for Fanfic Writing?
