If everyone wrote their fanfics in perfect Takahashi style, with 
perfect Takahashi stories, then fanfiction on the whole would be 
pointless. (OK, I'm only referring to Ranma fanfics at the moment...
anyway...)

The point of fanfiction is to take the characters into new situations 
that NEVER occurred during the manga/anime series. If you can't deal 
with this concept then you really don't need to bother to begin with.

I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I agree totally with this!
Except that I'd widen it to say in ****'s style, rather than just 
Takahashi.

For me, the important thing is that
(1) The characters act logically & consistently (given the original 
premise..); this doesn't exclude humour, btw!
(2) Where characterisations & situations differ from the original, 
ther must be a reason (not necessarily explained in part1) for this.
