Actually the story reminds me of Raistlin Majere.  The simalarities are 
uncanny.  Both are weak, coughs a lot, smart, and has a brother/sister 
that protects him.  But the only difference is that Ranma is a nice 
person and has no ambitions to become a god.  
Double hmmm.......

Raist was actually a fairly nice person in the Chronicles (to those he
cared about, so he wasn't totally without redemption), in fact, his evil
originally stemmed from his jelousy of his brother...
