I had no problem with Ukyou's characterisation in the fic, I just have a
hard time seeing Ukyou go through self-inflicted emotional horror. We all
don't like certain things happening to our favourite characters.

<Ryan looks back to the 2nd chapter of Purple Haired Destiny he was
working on, re-reading the last few lines he wrote before fe read this
post:

"Ukyo hugged her knees to her chest, rocking back and forth, tears
streaming from her eyes. "All my fault, all my fault, all my fault!" the
mantra pounded through her mind, making her want to curl up in a small
ball and just close her eyes forever. It would be so easy, she thought,
just close her eyes, pretend she hadn't just heard what she'd heard, and
dream of her and Ranma together forever. Forget this horrible place where
her Ranchan was going to die...."

Ryan looks back to the post, a large sweat drop forming on the back of his
head...>

The 
Shampoo fans, from my observation, are sick of seeing her treated as an
evil bimbo who doesn't have a chance of getting Ranma, and they seek to
address that in their fics. I just hate seeing Ukyou ending up with 
nothing. So, as I said, as long as Ukyou gains redemption... 

Yeah, I agree. Both girls have been almost exclusively given the same part
in stories over and over again. Ukyo is always the Martyr, while Shampoo
is always the brainless bimbo. Well, trust me, in me fic, NEITHER WILL BE
TRUE!! WAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH!!!@!!

Hmmm... I'm guessing you're not a fan of the Mousse-Shampoo matchup. :P

nope. me neither.

Personally, I have no great problem with any matchup, as long as it is
explained to my satisfaction. In a way, that seems to be (one of) the 
problem(s) that people have with the Mousse/Shampoo, Nabiki/Kunou, 
Ryouga/Ukyou and even Ranma/Akane matchups, in that they are often seen
as the easy ways out, and therefore are not logically explained. 

yup. I've seen precious few fanfics where the mousse/shampoo matchup was
given more thought than "oh, she's always loved him deep down" which is
just a load of crap.

(I still want to see a Mousse/Akane matchup. I've never seen it done, outside
one person's VERY incomplete fic, and there it was only a possible matchup.
Come on people, please, someone write a Mousse/Akane fic. I would, but I'm
swamped with unfinished stuff as it is. Waaahh!!! I've asked for this one
before, and no-one's done it yet!!!) 

that could be intresting... I don't know though, Akane is very in touch
with her emotions (one could say ruled by them) and none of the other
characters really seem to be (one of the reasons I don't like the
Ranma-Akane matchup) except for Ryouga.
