I'm going to go public with this, Jeremy, if only to head off similar
questions. Hope you don't mind.

You wouldn't happen to be writing 2010: Odyessy Two, would you?
Nope.
The only reason I wrote "3001: Final Odyssey" was because Bengman
pointed out that although Ryoga's (Frank Poole's) body wasn't lost in
space, Kasumi's was. "3001" is essentially the story of a resurrected
Frank Poole, whose body was found floating in space after a thousand
years. I couldn't do much more with the story, as it relates back to
what Dave Bowman (Ranma) and HAL have become in the "2010" and "2061"
novels, and since I didn't have a monolith anywhere in the story they
can't really 'become' anything that Frank (Now Kasumi) can do about.
(They would be dead in the year 3001, and would have been for
centuries.)
In short, "2001: Odyssey 1/2" was written as a lark, just for fun, and
"3001" was written purely because Bengman asked me to.
She asked me so nicely to do the 'fic, even if it was just a short
one-shot. How could I say no?

P.S. If anyone thinks they can write a sequel to Odyssey 1/2 out of what
I left them with the end of 2001, they are more than welcome to try.
