Not necessarily. Even *Ranma* doesn't have to know the truth. Ranma and
Genma left home when Ranma was very young - young enough he didn't even
know his mother by sight. Take a complicated visit to China early on,
followed by a later (the documented) visit by Genma figuring to correct
his mistake before Nodoka finds out.... <----FOUR -_^

The only thing that *has* to be changed is the promise made to Nodoka by
Genma. It has real potential as a story and cuts right down to the core of
what sex *is* Ranma - "really"?
