Captain Marvel still *is* Captain Marvel. It's just that when DC bought
the Fawcett characters, back in the middle 70's, they couldn't call a book
"Captain Marvel" because Marvel had the trademark on that due to
Mar-Vell's title. So they named it after the old Wizard, and apparently,
in all that time, Marvel's maintained the trademark, so DC *still* can't
name the book after the hero.
And, just to make a note, Mon-El is Valor no longer. The Powers that Be
in charge of Superman still won't let them use the Mon-El name, though, so
now he's taken the ancient Martian word for 'He who Wanders' - M'Onel!
Okay, it's not a perfect solution, but a lot of fans seem happy.
ObFanficStuff: Conflicts that would be interesting to see: Legion of
Super-Heroes vs. the Ranma cast, or the Z Fighters from Dragonball Z
versus Darkseid and all the hordes of Apokalips. Don't think either of
them would be hugely one-sided fights...
