[snip Valentine's Day discussion]
I'm also curious about any other major japanese festivals, such as
Tanabata, so if you feel like giving me a quick rundown I'd be grateful.
People around here have asked about modern and historical Japanese
festivals before, so I thought since I had a reference handy I'd give
a quick run-down for whoever's interested. I don't have any details
of modern festivals, but as for the traditional:
These are the major festivals observed in Heian Japan (so we're
talking about things dating from, say, the tenth century AD)
New Year's Day 1st day of 1st month
Peach Festival 3rd day of 3rd month
Iris Festival 5th day of 5th month
Weaver Festival 7th day of 7th month
Chrysanthemum Fest. 9th day of 9th month
Keep in mind that at this time they were using a lunar calendar that
tended to be about a month ahead of the Western calendar, so the first
month, for example, would be at approximately the same time of year as
our February.
If this info is of any use to anyone, I'll be happily surprised. ^_^
We now return you to Valentine's spam.
