HUNTER & PREY
Ch 9 Harbinger
"Sonoma, did you give me your blood?" Kurama demanded.
Sonoma looked up and stared into the pair of green eyes. He smiled and
said, "Does it matter?"
"Yes it does," Kurama replied. "you could've killed yourself doing that."
"It's a risk that has to be taken," Sonoma said. "I'm sure you've
encountered a lot of similar situations back in your days in Makai."
Kurama was silent for a minute, then he said, "Hiei told me everything.
I'm sorry."
Sonoma chuckled a little. "No need," he said. "it's life. It could be worse."
Kurama thought that it might be a good time to change their subject of
conversation. For some strange reasons, he could NOT seem to get anything
out of Sonoma. Sonoma had a way to get himself out of every questions.
*Just like me...* Kurama realized with some amusement. *Now I know why
Yusuke and the rest of them sometimes get so irritated about me.*
The phone rang, Kurama excused himself and picked it up. It was Yusuke on
the other line. Kurama talked on the phone for a few minutes and hung up.
"Sonoma, a friend of mine wanted to meet us for lunch," Kurama began. "do
you want to join?"
**************
*Why do I have to be dragged along?!* Hiei thought angrily as Kurama tugged
at his sleeve. He hated to go out and he hated to go to restaurants. Those
stupid humans always mistaken him for a little boy.
"May I help you?" A waiter asked.
"Ah yes," replied Kurama as he sat down. I would like a cup of coffee please."
"How about a bottle of beer for me, huh?" Asked Yusuke. The waitor took
down Yusuke's order on to the note pad.
"And what would you like, little boy?" He asked Hiei. Hiei glared back at him.
"Uh..." Kurama started. "Just a glass of water will be fine." He could see
Yusuke struggling very hard to not laugh.
"And what may I get for you, lady?" The waitor asked Sonoma.
Sonoma looked startled for a minute but quickly recovered his composure.
"Nothing, thank you." The waitor left to place the order. Yusuke then
burst out laughing.
"Oh man! Oh my god... hahaha..." He hollered. "Hiei...little
boy...hahaha...Hey Kurama, they didn't mistaken you for a girl this time but
they did him! Hahahaha..."
Kurama kicked Yusuke beneath the table. "Ow..!!" Yusuke yelped. "What did
you do that for?!!" He then saw the expression in Kurama's eyes and shut up.
"Sorry, Sonoma..." Yusuke mumbled.
"That's all right, Yusuke," Sonoma said. He glanced at Hiei and smiled.
Hiei returned Sonoma's glance with one of his famous glares. *That was
just like Kurama's expression!* Hiei thought. *Shit! The last thing I need
is to have two people like Kurama to tease me!!!*
"Is something wrong, Hiei?" Kurama asked, amusement dancing in his emerald
eyes.
Hiei just sat there and scowled for the rest of the meal.

Something must be done about this, Yukon concluded. He couldn't just sit
around and wait for himself to recover from the poison anymore. Although
that would mean his being in a weaker state when encountering Sonoma, he
would still be in a much better condition than Sonoma. He knew that Sonoma
had suffered some internal injuries on his way to Ningenkai. Yukon had
taken pains to ensure that there were enough traps along the way to weaken
his prey before his arrival at Ningenkai.
*What are you going to do after you killed him?* He asked himself. *Are you
just going to get the reward and then find a new prey?*
Yukon stopped what he was doing as another image of him with Sonoma flashed
through his mind.
*Face it,* The voice inside his head said. *you are not emotionless. That
halfling has gotten to you.*
*No!* He argued with himself.
*Why does it matter to you so much to kill him? The sum you are getting
out of it is not even worth all this time you've spent and sacrificed.
Under normal circumstances you would've deemed this to be a bad deal.*
*Shut up! Shut up!* His mind screamed. *It has nothing to do with THAT!!*
*You keep on thinking about it all the time, Yukon. Stop lying to
yourself.* The voice inside his head said again, "he saved your life and you
are grateful.*
*No,* his other voice shot back. *it was a violation. I would rather be
dead than to have him save me by doing THAT!! I want to kill him for doing
that to me!!*
*You are denying it. You do feel Yukon...*
"NO~~~!!!!!" Yukon screamed and buried his fist into the wall. The wall
cracked and started to crumble. He stepped away as he watched the wall
crumbled to dust. He caught his breath and tried to regain his composure.
Something must be cleared up before anything else was to be done. A good
assasin doesn't feel, when he does, then he is no longer an assasin. Yukon
knew that he was and still is a damn good assasin. He smiled himself as he
get ready to kill.
