Anyway, what if an author ended up in a world they knew was based
on an anime, but they don't know a lot about it, or they hate it?
e. g., what if I ended up in the SM universe?
I'm doing just that in Chris 1/2 ... well, that's not technically
an authorfic, in that I don't get dimensionally displaced ... but I wind
up in Nerima with no idea what's going to happen next. (I'm really
looking forward to writing "The Character"'s reactions to all the
"unusual" martial arts competitions ... "Martial Arts BADMINTON?! How
in the name of all that's holy ...")
The fellow who's writing "The Books" series does the same thing.
I can't remember the name, unfortunately.
Chris Davies.
It's me! I'm doing it! Nice to see that the series was remembered... always a
nice thing ^_^ And I am doing work on it, really I am... well, I'm doing work
on the adventure game version ~_^
Unfortunately, Ian (the character in the Books saga) does indeed suffer from
"interesting times". As I said in another e-mail, the current status quo for
Ian is:
Bubblegum Crisis:
Being headhunted by Genom due to his apparent mastery in matter
transportation.
Being hunted by the Knight Sabers who want to know why a Genom boomer was
tailing him, then saved his life.
Being hunted by Nene in particular, because of the investigation and puzzle
inherent in Ian's identity.
Being hunted by ADP (specifically Leon) due to his presence at the boomer
battle, his lack of record, the gun that ADP Tech department are interested in,
and the fact that he originally appeared in the ADP cell block.
Being hunted by a street gang hired by Chronos (and given appropriate
hardware), who believe that if they bring Ian to Chronos, Chronos might just
drop his guard enough for them to extract revenge from him.
Sailor Moon:
Kunzite is interested in the energy the portals Ian travels through produce.
His actions may cause the portal system to close down permanently, trapping
Ian in Sailor Moon.
Chronos is trying to get the Sailor Senshi and Ian together in an attempt to
get Beryl interested in Ian.
The Sailor Senshi now know that Ian knows their identities (the silly
hairstyle gave away Usagi, and Ian saw them transform literally minutes after
he appeared in SM). They suspect Ian to be a Dark Kingdom agent, and are
interested in detaining him and finding out his intentions.
In both books, Ian has been playing his usual game of avoiding everyone and
everything in an attempt to stay (1) safe, (2) sane and (3) alive. Also his
sarcasm when nervous, and general paranoia doesn't really endear him to people.
Ian also doesn't like manga. Ever since his stay in Ranma 1/2, where strange
things happening are everyday occurences, and escaping the event horizon is the
forbidden dream (Ian happened to be at ground zero a lot of the time), Ian has
come to dislike this genre.
Um, that's all I can think of for the moment. But it is a good idea! I mean,
that's why I started this all that time ago.
Oh, one last thing, I'm using this space to plug the adventure game I'm writing
of the book. Um, I already did that though, didn't I. Oh well.
Ciao,
Terence Fergusson
