I love discussions on the art of writing. And they're not spam,
either. If we can't discuss how to write fiction on a fiction list,
where can we discuss it?

You wrote:

well, if the action in your story takes place after she turns on the tv,
you might include maybe a sentence or two of foreshadowing, but muddling
the fic down with needless garbage makes me get this itch to hit CTRL-F4
^_^
and think about the writer. man, i get SO bored writing a zillion bs
lines when i want to get to the action and beef and explore some garbage
where it really counts.

The beauty of the prose style, its ability to explore the atmosphere
of a moment and the thoughts of a character, is also its greatest
danger. I too have given up on a fiction or two because the writer
had taken too long to "get on with it". The temptation is always
there to do too much exploration when there's a story waiting to be
told.

Again, this is the challenge of the script format, where no such
exploration is possible, and you have to make everything come out "on
the screen".

One last point. I've taken to deciding which format I'll use based
upon the story. For example, "The Green-Eyed Monster" was a cute
little OH MY GODDESS! story designed to feel just like the manga, so
I wrote it as a manga script. On the other hand, in "Mihoshi's
Academy Days", I wanted to write the story solely from Kiyone's
viewpoint and to explore her feelings toward Mihoshi, so I used
prose.
