You can say all you want that it's normal for a Japanese
person in that position.
It's also normal for a Japanese man to be off working long
hours and drinking all night and never seeing his wife, and
spending all his money on pachinko.
Maybe if your Ranma did all that, I could fit him in with
'normal' Japanese people ... but Ranma isn't any of that
... And you haven't explained why Ranma took that name.
Again, you're proceeding from the assumption that Ranma would consider
changing his name to be a loss of face. That would be true in a Western
culture. It is not true in Japan. Ranma wouldn't object because it
wouldn't occur to him to object. It would be like telling him that
bowing is considered obsequious and "unmanly" in Western culture - he'd
probably shrug and do it anwyway.
