<Question to an Operative>
When the chips were down it was you who played the ace
even though you must have surely know that you no had
real chance for triumph, you still played that card as if you
expected, somehow to emerge victorious.
your eyes had gleamed with cold hatred for your foe,
one of the most dangerous you'd known who
unlike the others, had ne'er a chance of redemption.
obviously, you couldn't win, but, still,
undaunted you face the challenge
that stared you, coldly eye to eye
offering no respite until you had
face the foe who had so wronged the only family
you had ever known. And standing your ground against your foe
offered you, perhaps unwittingly, those precious moments needed to
undo the evil that might have been, while you set your sites on your
revenge.
maybe you thought you had to do it. Perhaps your loyalty demanded
it. Whatever your reasons, what ever your aims had been,
noble as they might have been, lead ,alas, to your
destruction.
