It really depends on your interpretations, I suppose.
I've also read the Romeo & Juliet storyline, and I
never thought that she only got into the new play
because she had to be Romeo when she was little. In
fact, she outright says, 'All I ever wanted to put on a
dress and play Juliet' or something to that effect,
when talking about that play she was in as a child.

Further, after being forced to play Romeo as a child,
and then being approached with the same play,
wouldn't you have a responce similar to 'I hate
plays'? :) She was only trying to avoid being in the
play, because she was afraid they'd try to cast her as
Romeo again. Once she found out it was the part of
Juliet they wanted her for, she jumped at it.

Or at least, that's how I read it...

I suppose it does. However, a) there is no indication
whatever that she knew what play it was before hand,
so there was no reason to suspect they were
necessarily going to ask her to play Romeo again; b)
she says "I really wanted to wear a pretty dress and
play Juliet" ), and not "All I ever wanted to do..." etc.
At least, that's how I read the manga (I must confess
here that I go by the Japanese version. Viz may have
translated this differently. Also, perhaps the line was
changed in the animated version. However, as I've
said before, I'm a manga-nazi, plus I've noticed that
Viz's translations are not always (in fact, fairly often
not) accurate). I read this to mean she wanted to do
that as an alternative to playing Romeo, which
shamed her, and not that she had any real desire to
act in a play; and c) in no other storyline throughout
the manga is it even hinted that she has any interest
whatever in drama.

And speaking about Akane's future, what other goals
might she have? This is the only hobby Akane
seemed to show (that I've read, and I admit, I'm not
very well read in the Takahashi universe), aside from
martial arts- and Ranma's already got that area
covered. She'd hardly be a model house wife, nor
would I imagine her wanting to be one. ^_^ I find it
perfectly legitimate for fanfic writers to have her
aspiring to be an actress... Why not? Would you
rather writers decide she wants to become oh, a
teacher?
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Someone else has already addressed this (ie. sports),
though the English notion seemed a stretch to me,
though not so much as the actress idea. Also, I would
think her main interests are in martial arts. True, we
don't see it as much as the manga goes along, and
she's not nearly as good at it as Ranma. Still, she's
no slouch at it...

I acknowledge that its a fanfic and you can write
whatever you want in a fanfic. Hell, you can have her
studying to be a psychiatrist. But I bring this up
because I have seen more than one person write her
as though she was interested in drama, and the
evidence for this seems to me to be extremely slight...

PS. In another reply to the post I'm replying to,
someone said that Akane was Hinako-sensei's best
student. Where did that come from? I don't
necessarily doubt it, but I don't recall seeing or
hearing that before (not even in a fanfic).
