Ok, here is the very first installment of Slashtooth's Daily Reviews!
A general outlook on several stories from the ML, and specific points
that apply.
Neko-philia Parts 1,2, and 3
Bravo! Mr. Jamison did an excellent job on this one. Easily one of the
good ones that deserves a special place on the Hard Drive. The Ranma
characters were very well depicted, and the potion's effect was well
thought out. The only semi-letdown was how easily the potions effect
was cancelled out. A more detailed cure would have only added to the
story.
Well, Well, Parts 1-6
When I read 'The Second', I thought, "Yep, this is dark, alright."
After reading Well, Well, Methinks Suds-kun should try more 'fics that
start dark and end light, like this series did. Well done. I hope to
see more from you.
The Pit Of Fear
Not bad for a 1 1/2 page story. I could say that there might have been
a couple of things that I would have done differently, but then any
author would say the same thing. Interesting viewpoint on the Ranma -
Akane relationship. Kasumi, of course, is the only one that could have
gotten away with saying it.
As the Crow Flies PArts 1-9
Alas, this reviewer has not seen the movie 'The Crow', so I had to
review this story on it's own merit. The underlying plot of the
realators was too shady. There was no explanation given as to why they
needed the property so bad. Also, such heavy handed tactics taking
place in what appears to be 'modern day' Nerima seemed way out of
place. Murder is something that is not taken lightly, yet you get the
impression that it was semi common for the 'realators'. If this was set
in a near future Cyberpunkish setting, it would have made a lot more
sense. The funeral scene was well written, I could see the characters
reacting the way they did. However, the fact that everyone ignored the
threat of the 'realitors' was, well, stupid. All of the Tendo family
knew they would be back, but did nothing. Grief and mourning could
account for some innattention, but can anyone see the Tendo's sitting
idly by, waiting to be threatened, possibly killed? With a small
rewrite, this story has the potential to be excellent.
The Night
There are very few 'fics that deal with the Tendo sisters when they were
younger. Uncle Fester (Greg Sandborn) has done an excellent job of
capturing the feelings of that tragic time in their life. I was kinda
dissapointed in Nabiki for most of the story, till the end, when she
finally admitted her true feelings. Of the few things that could crack
Nabiki's resolve and control, this is one that she should have known not
to fight against.
Well, that is it for this time! Next time, a new addition to the
Slashtooth reviewing staff, The esteemed Ridgewolfe, Author and general
nusiance. If any author out there would like a more detailed C&C of
their fic, send me a request and copy of your story via private Email,
and we here will do our best to get it reviewed. Till next time!
