just to warn you... (in cas you haven't seen Vampire Princess Miyu),
"Shinma" actually means devil or daemon, or some supernatural (and evil)
force. She Shinma are the daemons which Miyu has to send back to the
other worlds. ^_^

Okay, in my latest story "The Dying of the Rose", I named Ranma's son
Tekima (I haven't named his daughter yet). I was looking for a
variation on the "wild horse" theme, and thought that "teki" meant
"unruly" (that's what the Japanese language server said, anyway). I
have subsequently been informed that it means "enemy". "Enemy horse" -
that's not the effect I was going for.
So much as I like the sound of Tekima, I think I'll be renaming him.
Here are some ideas:
Sounma - after the grandfathers. This was my first idea, but I rejected
it because it sounded so stupid.
Kumna - Cloudy Horse (sort of). Combining the "horse" theme of the
Saotome males with the "cloud" theme of the Tendos.
Shinma - True Horse. No particular reason, just sounds neat.
Nooma - Skillful (Intelligent) Horse. I like this because it fits how I
envision this character becoming (yes, my mind is already writing
stories where Ranma's kids have grown up). On the other hand, the name
sounds a little weird.
Mikanma - Orange Horse. Combining Akane's "Color" theme with the horse
theme. Orange happens to be my favorite color. Blue Horse is Aoima
(say that three times fast), Green Horse is Midorima (sound familiar?)
and Yellow Horse is Kiiroma.
I could chuck all of the above and go far a traditional Japanese name,
too.
Whaddya think?
