That's a little harsh.  Some of the fanfics aren't great, but I wouldn't
call 'em satire ^_^.  Fansubs are different too, being approved by JAILED,
which isn't a law-making body but composes all the people who would
prosecute such a thing.

Posting fanfics is illegal, to the best of my knowledge.  Microprose,
supposedly, sued over an X-Com fanfic and had a sure case before settling
out-of-court.  Well-distributed ST fanfic (meaning printed) was
prosecuted, although I'm guessing that was sold at a profit, and ST fanfic
used to be threatened with prosecution.

I remember when the 'zine guy advertised for fanfics, somebody posted
the relevant laws.  They showed that fanfics are illegal, although
disclaimers made it more difficult to prosecute.  Perhaps somebody still
has these files and could post them again?
