I'm gonna try to be brief, and probably fail.
I really like the FFML. Love it. Like the fics, the C&C, the people, even
like the spam. But there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.
I did a little rundown of the FFML mail I've gotten so far today, and
here's wot I found.
The Worth Killing For-Grammar thread accounted for 49 posts
The Authors in their own stories thread accounted for 25
5 people accounted for 48 of the posts
On the other hand, we got 6 bits of fanfics and 4 pieces of C&C, for a
grand total of 10 posts out of 100+ that directly relate to the
development of fanfics.
I enjoy reading, responding to, and creating spam. When I first joined the
list, I was one of the worst offenders.
But, quite frankly, things have gone way too far. There have been
several public complaints, Bob only knows how many direct to WW that we've
never seen. I've talked to several people who say that they'd, "love to be
on the FFML, but they can't handle the spam". This is not a good thing,
people.
I'm not asking you to stop all the spam. It's part of what makes the
list fun. Just keep the following things in mind before you post:
1 - Does the whole list really need/want to see this, or can it just be
sent to 1 - 8 people?
2 - Does this have anything at all to do with fanfics?
3 - Has someone else already said about the same thing I'm about to say?
4 - How many posts have I sent to the ML today? And how many of them were
C&C?
I personally didn't mind the "Authors in their own stories" Thread - it
was a discussion of an aspect of fanfiction that was aimed at a broad
audience. But I wasn't real thrilled about seeing the exact same thing
said by 3 different people.
This is not a demand, not a threat, not a gripe. This is a plea.
Please cut down on the spam. Thank you.
