He could try to get a friend to do it... but not everyone is willing. 
Quick, call Dr. Kevorkian!  It would be more honorable to fall on his
sword, though.  Remember "Antony and Cleopatra"?  When I wrote my
first suggestion, I was thinking of "the Hakkenden", where the father
kills himself after being threatened by his lord.  By killing himself
before his master could kill him, he saved face and allowed his son to
live with honor.
