Yeah,  I have to agree with you that Akari was probably
introduced near the end of the series just to pair off 
Ryouga.  Having just read the manga vol 16, there
is a scene where Ukyou baps Ryouga with her 
spatula to stop him from being depressed.  I think
this is very interesting because if these two do get
together, Ukyou could make Ryouga happy (or else :>)
  Also I like Ukyou's character because it is strong as well
as cheerful.  Akari is a bit too nice and passive.  Even when
she is using him to get Ranma, Ukyou's personality compliments
Ryouga's.  i.e. In his first "date" with Akane, R. asks U. to
help and advise him.  She gives him confidence and her
personality helps crystallize his resolve.
  I dunno 'bout Akari though, since she is not part of
the main cast, her character isn't really well formed/known.
All I know is that she is a kinda generic nice, cute, patient girl.  IMHO,
Ryouga deserves a much more vivid and strong-minded
girl.  Now that Ranma is willing to marry Akane, Ukyou
seems to fit the bill.

Hmmm... Well, lets see... Ryouga decided of his own free will to leave

And Ukyou? There is absolutely NO evidence that Ryouga and Ukyou are

they meet they are either fighting each other or using each other. Any
relationship based on using each other is going to fail... The only place

Yes, Ukyou is much better defined... defined in such a way that she and
Ryouga don't care about each other one bit, that they would use each other
at the slightest oportunity, and fight the rest of the time.

I agree, which is why I am trying to have Ryouga and Ukyou hacking on each 
other all the time (notice how they keep having all these little tiffs ?)

I am also trying to flesh out a REASON behind any relationship that MIGHT
occur between them.

Their relationship (should be) starting from antagonists and moving toward
friendship.

Also, I am trying to decide exactly what would happen if Ryouga finally
got together... how would it work?
