song is even older than that!  It is pre 1980, It might be pre 1970.

Well, I'll start out by saying I KNOW this is on a Dr. Demento 
compilation, because one of my roommates occasionally annoys me with Dr. 
Demento songs.  I knew at one point who made the song, and I'll probably 
remember right after I hang up...
I'm pretty sure this is a pre-Beatles song made by a pre-Beatles band.  
My guess is it was released in 1963 by the Animals or the Turtles.
